PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HENRY SEEGERS, or SHARON, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAIN-POLE.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 762,355, dated June 14, 1904.
Application filed September 15, 1903. Serial No. 173,332. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HENRY Snncnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharon, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Poles, of which improvement the following is a specification.
My invention relates to curtain-poles; and its object is to provide a novel form of curtain poles and fastener which shall be better adapted to hanging curtains than any now in use.
My invention consists of certain novel forms of details and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters refer to like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a view of my pole with the curtain in position. Fig. 2 is an end view of the curtain-holder. Fig. 3 is a View of my curtain-fastener removed from the pole. Fig. 4 is a View of a part of the same when open to receive the curtain.
The numeral 1 indicates the pole proper, which consists of a tube provided with a slot 2, extending therethrough, the edges of which tube are bent upon themselves, as at 3. Detachable ornamental ends 5 of any form I desire are provided for the pole.
My curtain-fastener 6 consists of two bars of wood or metal of any desired cross-section. A hinge 7 connects said bars, and latches 8 I are provided at the opposite ends and such other intermediate points as I may desire. Strips 9 are held upon said bars in such manner as to project down through the slot2and protect the curtain from rubbing or catching on said slot. Locating-guides 10 are provided where desired and are attached securely to said bars. Upon one of said bars are held a series of pins 11, and in the opposing bar are formed a series of openings 12, adapted to receive said plns.
In the operation of my device the bars are opened and a curtain or pair of curtains hooked upon the pins 11. The bars are then closed and locked and the whole is inserted in the tubular rod. The ornamental ends are then placed on the rod and the curtain-pole is ready to be placed upon its brackets.
It is thus seen that Ihave provided a novel and efiicient device for the purpose specified and one which is of great utility and low cost of manufacture. It is specially desired to call attention to the fact that by the use of my device a curtain may be hung in any desired folds and the same will remain in that condition as long as desired.
It is plain that I may make minor changes in my invention without affecting the principles thereof. I do not desire, therefore, to confine myself to the exact form herein shown and described, but wish to include all such as properly come within the scope of my invention. i 5
Having thus described my invention, I claim A curtain-pole comprising two bars hinged together at their ends, one of said bars having a series of pins, and the opposing bar a 7 series of holes to receive said pins, curved and notched segment blocks fitted on the hinged ends of said bars, an angled strip secured to each of the bars, means for fastening the free ends of the bars together, and a slotted tube designed to be fitted over said bars and contact with the convexed circumferences of the blocks, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing 30 witnesses.
JOHN HENRY SEEGERS.
In presence of- ALFRED WILLIAMS, WM. KUDEsILL.
