PATENT OFFI E.
STUD MEMBER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,875, dated May 24, 1904.
7 Application filed July 30, 1903. SerialNo. 167,541. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HERMAN KERNGOOD, 'a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stud Members, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of fastening devices for gloves and other articles which have a socket member and a stud member.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 to 7, inclusive, show the stud member at various stages of construction. Figs. 8 to 10, inclusive, show a modified form of the stud member at various stages of construction. Figs. 11 to 18, inclusive, show another form of the stud member at various stages of construction. One form of the stud member may be described as follows: A sheet-metal blank-of the than the first and second, is drawn into the form shown in Fig. 6, by which the structure shown in Fig. 5 is secured to the material, as shown in Fig. 7, which thus completed may be described as follows: 1 is the fabric. 2 3 are the flange and upward projection of the eyelet by which the stud is secured to the fabric, the upward projection 3 being preferably in the form of a closed dome, which is set in the form shown in Fig. 7 by pressure from above. 4 and 5 are the flange and dome of the spring-piece holder, the crown of which is perforated. and which is partially spherical in form, so as'to properly retain the eyelet projection 3 when pressed into the form shown in Fig. 7. 6 and 7 are respectively the ring and crown of the spring-piece, which are con: nected by the convex spring-arms 8. 9 is a nib extending from the crown 7 through the perforation in the crown 5,' inside of which it is riveted, as shown in Fig. 7, to securely unite the spring-piece and spring-piece holder at the apex.
Another form of the stud member may be described as follows: A spring-piece of the form shown in Fig. 8 is prepared by drawing bined, as shown in Fig. 10, which is substantially the same as shown in Fig. 5, excepting that the nib 9, by which the two parts, are united, is integral with the spring-piece holder instead of being integral with the spring-piece itself.
Another form of the stud member may be described as follows: A sheet-metal blank of the form shown in Fig. 11 is drawn into the form shown in Fig. 12, which differs from the spring-piece shown in Fig. 3 in that it lacks the ring 6, which connects the extremities of the spring-arms 8. This spring-piece is united to a spring-piece holder ofthe form shown in Fig. 13, wherein the dome instead of being of the partially-spherical form shown in Fig. 4
is inwardly corrugated at 10, the eyelet-dome I being obliged by pressure from above to con form with this corrugation, as shown at 11,
and thus to secure the stud firmly to the material.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to.secure by Letters Patent In a fastener for gloves or other articles, a stud member containing in combination a hollow dome 5, the lower extremity of which consists of the flange 4 resting on top of the material, a spring-dome, the lower extremity of which is separated from the material by said flange 4:, means whereby said domes are secured together atthe apex and an eyelet adapted to be clenched internally within said dome 5 extending through the material and provided with a flange underneath the same.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
