PATENT OEErcE.
RICHARD B. ADAMS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPRINKLER OH MINIMIZER..
SFIEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,843, dated May 17, 1904.
Application iiled January 29, 1904. Serial No. 191,152. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
B e it known that ll, RICHARD B. ADAMS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county of New York and f State of New York, have invented certain new and usei'ul improvements in Sprinklers or Minimizers, of which the following is a specification, such asV will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this linvention is to provide a bottle or similar vessel designed to contain perfume, holy water, disinfectantliquids, or similar substances, with a sprinkler or minimizer part of which forms a stopper for the bottle; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the fol lowing specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in whichl l Figure Il is a central vertical section of an ordinary bottle provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a similar view of the sprayer orminimizer removed from the bottle and partially in section and showing also a modification.
lin the drawings forming part of this specifi cation ll have shown at a an ordinary bottle provided with a neckaz., and in the practice of my invention l provide a sprinkler, sprayer., or minimizer comprising a part b, which is adapted to serve as a stopper for the bottle and which is provided with a handle portion b2 and a shank portion b3, having at its lower end an enlarged hollow bulb b4., the top portion of which is perforated, as shown at b5.
The sprinkler, sprayer, or minimizer comprising the parts b, b2, t, and may be made of any desired material; but l prefer to make the same of glass or hard rubber or some similar substance, and in. the form of construction lshown in Fig. l the stopper portion In, the handle portion b2, the shank b3, and the bulb b4 are all made hollow, and the hollow spaces therein are in communication.
ln using this device the liquid to be sprayed or minimized is put in the bottle a, and the sprayer or sprink-ler is inserted into the bottle, as shown in Fig. 1. In this operation the liquid in the bottle passes into the bulb b4 through the perforations 2f', and when desired the sprayer, sprinkler, or `minimizer is removed from the bottle, and by gently shaking or agitating the device the contents or' the bulb may be distributed over a person or object, as will be readily understood.
When the sprinkler or sprayer is inserted into the bottle as above described, the liquid in the bullob'1 is placed under pressure by means of the air in the parts I), b2, b3, and b, and the bulb b4 will only b e partially filled; but by removing the device from the bottle and -inverting it the contents of the bulb will slowly pass through the shank b3 into the part b2, and the shank 113 may be so made as to facilitate this operation, and in this way a considerable amount'of the liquid may be caused to enter the handle portion 52, and, if desired, the handle portion 152 may be provided with a valve which will allow the air to escape and permit the liquid to rise in the bulb b4 and in the shank L when the latter parts are inserted into the bottle.
ln the construction shown in Fig. 2 the parts b, b2, and b3 are made solid; but the bulb t* is hollow, and the operation of this form of construction will be the same as that of the construction shown in Fig. 1, except that the liquids can only rise in the bulb L* to the top of the perforations therein.
lt will be understood, of course, that the discharging of the liquid from the bulb L* will be regulated by the sire or the perforations if', and my invention is not limited to exact forms herein shown and described nor to any particular materials used in the construction of the sprayer, sprinkler, or minimizer, and various changes in and modiiications of the construction heren described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what ll claim as new, and desire to securcby Letters Patent, is
- 1. .A bottle or similar vessel provided with a neck, and a sprinkler o1' minimzer comprising a part which is adapted to close said neck, a handle connected therewith, and a shank connected therewith opposite the handle and adapted to be inserted into the bottle or vessel, said shank being provided with a hollow perforated bulb, substantially as shown and described. v
Q. A bottle or similar vessel provided with a neck, and a sprayer or minimizer comprising a part which is adapted to close said neck, a handle connected therewith, and a shank connected therewith opposite the handle and adapted to be inserted into the bottle 0r vessel, said shank being provided with a hollow perforated bulb, and' the shank and stopper portion being also hollow and in communication with said bulb, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 28th day of January, 1904.
RICHARD B. ADAMS.
