To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM ELSWORTH LAWRENCE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mucilage Receptacles or Cans, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of re ference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to mucilage-bottles, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this kind having a closed cap and a flat top plate connected therewith, in which is formed a small perforation through which the mucilage will pass when the bottle is inverted, a further object being to dispense with the use of brushes for applying the mucilage; and with this and other objects in view the. invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure l is a central vertical section of my improved mucilage-bottle, and Fig. 2 a top plan view.

In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle A, which is preferably of the form shown in the drawings, which is substantially conical, or the same may be many-sided in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 2. The bottle is provided with a neck B at its top, and re movably secured thereto is a cap or cover C, having a downwardly-dependin g flange orrim D, by means of which connection with the neck Bis made, and formed on the top th ereof is a neck D, the top of which is out 01f at an angle, as shown in Fig. 1, and secured thereto is a plate E, which is shown in the drawings, and which may be round or of any desired form, and formed centrally in the plate E is a small perforation F, through which the mucilage is adapted to pass when the bottle is inverted.

The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings; When the bottle is inverted, the mucilage will ooze through the perforation F or pass therethrough in small quantities, and it is applied to the paper or other substance by means of the plate E, which is passed thereover, as will be readily understood, the mucilage being spread in this operation by the plate. It will thus be seen that I dispense with a brush, and with my improved bottles there is no danger of the neck thereof becoming clogged by reason of the mucilage drying thereon, the frequent inversion of the bottle operating to keep the neck thereof free from cake or dried mucilage. The perforation or opening F will frequently become closed bymeans of the Inucilage drying therein, and this perforation can easily and quickly be opened by means of a pin. I may also pro vide a cover for the plate F, which will prevent the mucilage from passing therethrough when the bottle is being shipped; but this element forms no part of this invention and is not shown or described. It will also be understood that the small perforation F will be always closed either by mucilage in a flluid condition or by dried mucilage, and there can therefore be no evaporation, and the mu cilage will not dry or cake in the bottle, as when other devices of this class are employed.

My invention is not limited to the exact form and construction of the vessel or receptacle A, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A mucilage-bottle, provided with a neck, a cap secured thereto, saidcap being also provided with a eck, the upper end of which is cutaway at an angle, and a plate or cover being extended beyond the vertical sides of said neck or tube and secured thereon, said plate or cbver being provided with a small perforation 0r opening,substantially as shown and described.

2. A mucilage-bottle that will not clog, consisting of the receptacle or vessel A, provided with a screw-threaded extension or neck B, adapted to receive acap or cover 0, having a downwardly-directed depending flange interiorly screw-threaded and adapted to be secured upon the neck B, and a tubular portion extending upwardly from said cap, and con1+ lnunicating With the central opening therein, the top of said tubular portion being cut off at an angle, and a plate E secured upon the top thereof, and extending beyond the Vertical sides of said tube and provided with a small perforation, whereby the muoilage is discharged slowly therefrom, substantially as described.
