Description

.Y @when mi@ ,M2M @flits Letters Patent No. 75,965, dated March 24, V1868.

@la tlgehnlt mgmt in im that etttrt gnent unt making putt iii tlgtszmte.
rro ALL WHoM 1T MAvicONoEnN:
Beit known'thnt I, JOHN G, PERRY, of Kingston, in the county of Washington, in the Stateof Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sausage-Fillers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full andocorrect account and description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming part of this speciication` and to the letters of reference-marked thereon.
The drawing is a perspective view of the sausage-filler, represented as being openfto show the inside arrangement. g z
To enable others to understand my Yiimprovemeut, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
An oblong box or case, B, is made, and a follower, A, is fitted to slide `snugly in itfrom one end to the other,`
To this follower is attached a. screw, a, in such a. mnner as to allowot the screw being turned without turning the follower, though, 'if Athe case is made round like a cylinder, thefollower and screw may be made to turn together. The screw a is brought out through a hole or nut, x, in the end of the case, which hole'has aI screwthread made in it to form thenut for the screw 'a to work in. This end of the-case is'cut in two horizontally through the centre of the hole or nut x, and one part, e, of the end is fastened tothe cover O of case B, so that, when the cover is opened, the nut is divided, and one half of it is raised to allow the screw to be taken out, or raised and slid or moved from end to end without being turned round in the nut.Y In the end opposite to thc nu?I is auiopening, 0,.in which is put a. nozzle, s, to hold the cases to be filled, and direct the meat int-o them. J isa crank on the end of the screw a.. n is the catch to hold the cover down.
The operation is as follows The cover of the case beingl opened,ltl1e screw ais li'tedby the cranlcend until it is clear of the thread in the lower half` of the nut or hole, whenit is drawn or taken back until the' follower A is close to that end 4of' the case. "Now the case is iilled with the chopped meat, and the cover O shut and fastened. The screw a being then turned by the crank, J, forces the follower along the box, and drives the meat out at the opening in the other end through the nozzle into the cases, when the cover is again opened and the same operation repeated, The readiness with which the screw can-be drawn or moved back, and the case refilled,A saves a great deal in time` and labor overwhat-would be required if the screw had to be turned or screwed back the whole length every time the' oase was' filled, as would be thecasc if the nut :u were made in one piece.
Having thus described my improved V,sausagediller, 'what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent therein, is- Y Constructing a. sausage-Eller wit'h a screw and nut, the nut being divided into two parts, substanttally as herein described, and for the purposes set forth.` l
A JOHN G. PERRY.
