A further object of the invention is to provide a head which may be readily applied to or removed from a punching-bag of any description.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the nature of the invention is more fully understood from the following description and accompanying drawings.

The invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed,and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred form of my invention, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a punchingbag provided with a metallic head in accdrdance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the head being in section. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the-body portion of the head. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the cap portion of'the head.

Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 1 designates the casing of a punching-bag, having its upper end provided with a centrally-located perforation2 and adjacent the perforation with an opening 3, through which the inflatable sack may be inserted within or withdrawn from thecas'ing.

The head comprises two members, ahollow body 4 and a cap 6. The body 4 is substantially semispherical in contour and is provided with a hollow shank 5, having its exterior screw-threaded for the reception of a nut 5. The body4= is adapted to be inserted within the casing through the opening 3, after which the shank 5 is projected through the perforation 2 to permit the upper portion of the casing falling around the semispherical portion of the body. The cap 6 is also substantially semispherical in contour and.of a diameter greater than that of the body to permit of the cap being fitted down over the body to clamp the casing therebetween, to secure the head in applied position. The cap is provided with a centrally-located aperture 7 to permit of the shank 5 passing therethrough. After the cap is fitted on the body the nut 5 is screwed down the shank 5 to frictionally clamp the cap against the body to prevent its accidental displacement. A suspending cord or rope 8 has one of its ends passed through the shank 5, after which it is knotted, theknot being received by the hollow portion of the cap to prevent the punching-bag from becom-' ing accidentally disengaged therefrom.

It is apparent from the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that by the provision of the metallic head a punching-bag may be secured to and removed from its suspending means and there is no liability of it becoming disengaged therefrom and that by the central location of the head the strain thereon is equallyjdistributed.

Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a punching-bag, the combination with a cover having an opening at one end, a rigid member within the cover having provisions for securing suspending means thereto, a separate rigid cooperating member lying without the cover, and independently-movable clamping means for removably uniting the two members and securing the same respectively against the inner and outer surfaces of the cover.

2. In adevice of the character described, the combination with a punching-bag provided with an aperture in its upper end, a body provided with a hollow stem adapted to project through the aperture, a cap adapted to fit over the stem to clamp the casing between itself and the body, means carried by the stem to keep the cap down on the head, and a suspending means secured to the body.
