To ALI. WIIoM IT MAY OQNCERN: j
Be it knovy'nV that I, SAMUEL SMITH, of Plainview, in the county of Wabasha, and in the`State of Minnei seta, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mode of Attaching Traces to Whille-'lrees; and
do hereby declare thatthe iollowing is a. full, clear, and exact `description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingidrawlngs, and the letters off-reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings, making a'. part of this specification, A represents one end of an ordinary swinglc- Stree, and B represents a metallie'ferrule on the end thereof'. The ferrulel B is made of any metal desired, and
is either cast or malleable, and is' provided with two knobs or projections, ,fr :11, on' opposite sides, for the purpose of securing and holding the ring or cook-eye C of the harness-tug D. This ferrule is screwed or pinned to the swingle-tree A, .to prevent itsturning or slipping on the said swingle-tree, and in such manner that the projc' tions :v a: will-be at any desired angle with the plane of the s\ vingle-tree. C represents a'metallic ring or cockeye, made in the ordinary form and manner, and of sufficientsize or dimensions lto t on the ferrule B, with a notch or enlargement, f, sothatit may be adjusted by passingover the projections x. By elevating or depressing the front end of the cock-eye C, and hooking it over one of the vknobs x, the` ei'ilargenientfallows it toreadily slip over the oppostepknob cr, and thus the harness-tug D is fastened in a simple `and easy manner to the sWingle-tree A. D represents one endrof a harness-tug, which is attached in the usual manner to thev cock-eye C.
Having thus fully described my invention, rrhat I cla-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of the ferrule B, with its projections :c :v a: 2:, and the ring C,-\ vith its enlargement f, all constructed and used substantialljr as set forth. i
-In testimony that VI claim the foregoing,v I have hereunto set my hand, this 30th day of December, 1867.
SAMUEL SMITH.
