Letters Patent No. 85,039, dated December 15, 1868.
IMPROv-nn DnAUGH'n-EQUALIZER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patentand Arxxaleinag part ef the same.
Toall 'whom it ma/y concern Be it known that we, RICHALRD WALKER and GEORGE TRUMBULL, of Batavia, in the county of Genesee, and State of New York, have invented certain new and use-s ful Improvements in DraughtfEqualizers; and we do hereby declare 'that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference.l being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part-'Of this specification, in which- I Figure l represents a plan View of our draught-equalizer, as applied to the beam of a plow, and.
Figure 2 is a front detached view, exhibiting its shape. The nature of our invention consists in the peculiar construction of the draughtbar,or wenen-provided at or near its centre with adjusting-holes, and serrated on its front edge, and used in combination with a slotted slide, supplied with set-screws, substantially. as and for the-purpose hereinafter set forth.
To enable others-to make and use our invention, we will now describe its lconstruction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings-4- A A represents the evener, or draught-bar, which is curved or bent outwards and upwards, as shown in iig. 2, and terminating in a hook, a, into which hooks a staple secured to a whille-tree, b. The opposite or other end of this bar is curved downwards and inwards,
as vseen also in iig. 2,- and formed at itsextremity with an eye. c v c c designate adjusting-holes made in the-bar A, at or near its centre, and by means of which the desired `leverage'can be given tothe horses, by removing' the B represents' a slide, formed or provided at its inner ends-with projections, which engage with the serrations d d On the bar A.
The slide B is also provided with slots lc e,`in which are placed set-screws ff, entering the bar A, and by means of which the slide may be placed nearer or -further from the centre of the bar A, and there'securely p held when it is desired to equalize the draught.
C is a elevis secured to the -slide B by nieansgof a bolt and nut, and connecting the Ydraughtbar with the beam or tongue F, the tongue being 'provided with a clevis, c, with which it links or connects, said cleris being secured in place by means of a bolt and nut.
c2 desi nates a .metal plate, fastened to the beam or tongue E?, and furnished at its outer end with adjust4 ing-holes c3 c3, into which is inserted the bolt, fastening the clevis c in place.
'IO the lower end of bar A, and secured in its eye by a bolt, isanother clevis, 71 connecting the doubletree therewith, and which is provided at each end with a whiflie-tree, to which the horses may be attached.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat` H. M. WARREN, G. H. HOLDEN.
