ELECTRIC-LAMP GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,314, dated April 12, 1904.
Application filed August 1, 1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ONAS KAUFMAN,16S1(1- ing at Newcastle, county of Lawrence, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Electric-Lamp Guard, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a simple, effective, and economically -constructed guard or cage for electric-light bulbs and the like, and which can be easily and cheaply manufactured, and which can be readily applied to the ordinary form of incandescent-lamp sockets.
The invention in its generic nature consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, which will be first described in detail and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved guard detached. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, showing the same applied to the lamp-socket. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section showing the guard opened to permit of the insertion of the lamp into the socket, the socket and lamp being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 4c is a plan view of the guard as shown in Fig. 1. a
In the drawings, 1 designates a small wire ring of slightly greater diameter than the diameter of the lamp-socket and having its ends looped together, as at 1. Attached at 2 to the ring 1 are a number of wire loops 2, the ends of which are bent over the ring 1 and passed downwardly, as shown in Fig, 1, the wire loops 2 being so arranged in'relation to each other and to themselves as to assume the form in outline of the lamp-bulb. The ends of the wire loops joining with the ring. 1 are so shaped and formed as to provide cam portions 2 (see Figs. 1, 2, and 3) for a purpose presently explained.

members 2 closed around the lamp-bulb. By moving the ring 2 up toward the ring 1 the members 2 will be spread out to allow their bottom ends 2 to become separated to permit the insertion of the lamp-bulb in the manner shown in Fig. 3.
By providing the cam portions 2 it will be noticed that when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2 the said cam portions will tightly engage the necks of the socket S and firmly grip the same to hold the guard in its proper position. By spreading the members 2 sufficiently apart by moving the ring 3 up toward the ring 1 in the manner shown in Fig. 1 the said cam portions will become disengaged from the socket S and the guard easily removed from the socket.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought the advantages and complete operation of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which it apring, said loops having cam portions for engaging the lamp-socket to hold the guard in place.
3. In a lamp-guard, a ring arranged to encircle the lamp-socket, a plurality of wire loops having their ends hingedly secured to the said ring, said loops having cam portions for engaging and clamping the lamp-socket to hold the guard in place.
4. In a lamp-guard, a ring arranged to encircle thelamp-socket, a plurality of wire loops having their ends hingedly secured to the said ring, said loops having cam portions for engaging and clamping the lamp-socket to hold IOO IO shaped to conform to the general outline of the lamp-bulb and having their lower portions abutting when the guard is closed, a second Wire ring having eye portions mounted on the said loops for adjustment to and from the encircling ring to open and close the guard, for 5 the purposes specified.
