PATENT OFFICE.
WRENCH ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 755,924, dated March 29, 1904.
Application filed December 14, 1903. Serial No. 185,168. (No model.)
Toall whom it may conloern:
as hereinafter shown and described, and specified in the claims.
In the drawings illustrative of the invention, in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, Figure 1 is a side view of an ordinary form of nut-wrench with the improved attachment applied. Fig. 2 are perspective views of the two portions comprising the improvement detached. Fig. 3 are views similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modified form of the improved attachment.
-The improvement herein described and shown is designed for attachment to an ordinary nut-wrench, more particularly of the monkey-wrench form, as shown, wherein 10 represents the shank'or-stock, 11 the stationary jaw, and12 the movable jaw.
The improved attachment consists of a supplemental jaw 13, having an inclined serrated face 14 and adapted for position against the inner face of the stationary jaw 11 and provided with spaced arms 15 16 for embracing the opposite sides of the stock 10 and extending in,the rear thereof, as shown. The rearwardly-extending portions of the arms 15 16 are correspondingly threaded, as at 17 18, so that a screw-threaded member 19 may be engaged with both of the arms, as shown. When thus connected, the inner end of the screw 19 bears against the rearface of the stock 10 and firmly couples the supplemental jaw member to the wrench-stock and quickly transforms the nut-wrench into an eificient pipe-wrench, as will be obvious.
The attachment is very simple in construction, can be cheaply manufactured, and is a very convenient and efficient attachment for the purposes intended.
In Fig. 3 is shown a modified form of construction, consisting in arranging the screwthreads 17' 18 exteriorly of the arms 15 16 and forming a screw-threaded member 19 with its threads in the interior instead of on the exterior; but this would not be a depart- .ure from the principle of the invention or sacrifice any of its advantages, as the construction and results produced are substantially the same in both forms shown.
The attachment may be modified in proportions and other 'minor details to adapt it to different sizes and forms of wrenches.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is- 1. A pipewrench attachment for a nutwrench comprising a serrated jaw having spaced arms for embracing the stock of a wrench with their extremities correspondingly threaded, and a screw-threaded member for engaging both of said arms in the rear of the stock.
2. A pipe wrench attachment for a nutwrench, comprising a serrated jaw having spaced arms for embracing the stock of a wrench with their extremities correspondingly threaded and a screw-threaded member for engaging both of said arms and bearing against the rear of the stock.
3. A pipe-wrench attachment for a nutwrench comprising a serrated jaw having spaced arms for embracing'the stock of a wrench with their extremities correspondingly threaded internally, and a screw-threaded member for. engaging both of said arms and operating between them and bearing against
