Be it known that I, EZRA CAswELmof Lyons, inthe county-ef Wayne, and State of New York, have "inventeda new and improved Bed-Bottom; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fill, clear, and
exact description thereof, whichwill enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Y Figure 1 represents-a longitudinal vertical sectional view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a plan or .top viewof the same. v
Figure 3 is aside elevation ofthe hook that is attached to the frame, and from which the slats are suspended.
Similar Vletters of reference `indicate corresponding parts`v This invention relates to that class of bed-bottoms in which the slats are suspended by means of elastic straps from the side-hars of the hedstead.
Theinveution cons ists in the use of a clamp which is secured to the end ofthe slat, and which has a slotted bar for receiving the ends of the rubber strap, hy means of which the slat is suspended. Through the looped end of the strap is iitted abent roll, the ,ends of which are fitted over hooks that are secured to the side 'of the bedstead. y I
.A representsthe sides of the hed'stead. B B are hooks secured to the same, two hooks being arranged opposite tothe end of each slat C. These two hooks may he formed `on one plate, a, as shown' in iig. 3, or may be secured separate tothe hedstead, or `one' wide hook may -be used, extending fromlendr to endet` the plate n,
as may he desired. -To the end of each Slat is secured a clamp or frame, D, consistlngof one or lnore pieces of .metal or other suitablematerial. The shape of this clamp is clearly shown in fig. 2. v It is a. plate, b, solid or perforated, placedupon the slat, having vertical pins, cc,.su spended from the sides, which are at their lower ends connected by a st'rongbar, 02, which lits under the slat, and supports the same, as shown. The framem'ay be tacked to the slat hy nneansef a screwforvpin, e, so that it will remain on `the slat when the latter is removed from the hedstead. At the endpoi. the frame D, opposite to or near the ond of the slot, is formed', on the frame D, a slotted horizontal har,j', whichreeeivesthe ends of the elastic strap E, by means of which the slat is suspended from the bedstead.` `The ends of the strap are clamped in the barf hy means of a wedge, g, which is -inserted into theslot of the barf, as shown inlig. 1, that is, 'betweenl the ends of theV strap or between one' end Y of the strap and one sidev of the slot. Through the looped end ot' the strap E is fitted a bent bar,.F, the ends of which are bent about parallel tc the body, the latter'heing held in the loop,A as shown in iig. 2. The ends of tho bar F 'nre fitted ov'er the hoo-ksB, as shown, and thus the s'lat is suspended fronnthe bedstead.
The manner herein shown 'and described -of securing the ends of the strap in the frame D is far simpler and more economical than any heretofore used. The'end of the-slat n'eed nothe formed in any specific-manner, as the frame D, when properly fitted to the `slut, forms part ofthe same, to receive the strap.
I claim as new, and desire-to secure by' Letters Patent-.V
The bed-bottom constructed as described, and consisting of the slats C, frame D, having slotted cross-bar f, plate a, having hooks B,-link F, elastic strap E,wedg cg`, an'd screw e,all arranged and operating as described, and for the purpose speciiied'.
