Description

UNITED STATE Patented February 16, 1904.
PATENT OFFI E.
DISPLAY-RACK.
, SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,387, dated February 16, 1904.
Application filed October 19,1903.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE W. DURKEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Patchogue, in the county of Sufiolk and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to display-racks, and particularly to articles of this class which are adapted to hold and display goods put up in packages and of various descriptions just as they are received from the shipper or'manufacturer.
Heretofore in displaying goods put up in packages racks have been employed in which there are receptacles for receiving the differ- 'ent groups of goods. These racks required the removal of the packages from the shipping boxes or closures and the placing of the same in the receptacles intended therefor or a double handlingof the goods, and,'moreover, these receptacles are generally too small to hold all the packages contained in one shipping-box, thereby necessitating a place for storage of the remainder of the stock; and
- the object of my invention is to provide a display-rack which will receive and hold the shipping-boxes containing the packages just as they reach the retailer.
In carrying out my invention I employ a frame revolubly mounted in a suitable stand, brackets secured in said frame in such position as to receive and hold shipping-boxes containing the packages of goods of standard size to be displayed, and means for maintaining said boxes in position in the rack, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved display-rack. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on linen: w of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on line 3 y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of Fig." 3, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of a modification of my invention.
a represents a base or support, preferably of metal and which may be of any desired form, having a standard or post I) mounted therein.
c is a flanged socket fitting over the end of the standard 6, and a top at is secured to the Serial No. 177,595. (No model.)
flange thereof. The top (Z is shown as hexagonal, having three long and three short edges, the latter produced by cutting the points off a triangular figure, and a molding d is secured to the under side thereof adjacent to the edges.
. e is a three-legged spider whose hub fits over the standard I). The ends of the portions 6 terminate in integral brackets e, and ff are uprights secured at one end to the bracket ends 6 of the spider-legs and at the other end to the molding at under the short edges of the top at. These parts are revoluble on the standard and are kept in position vertically by means of a pin 2, passing through the standard. it h are triangular faced brackets secured at corresponding heights to the inner faces of the uprights f by means of screws 5. Each bracket h is. an integral structure and comprises a web 3 and depending flange 1, by which it is connected by screws 5 to the inner surface of an upright f, converging ribs 6 at acute angles to the line of-the flange 4, a cen tral lug 7, and depending lugs 8 beneath the web 3 and at opposite sides of'the vertical position of the lug 7. converging ribs 6 becomes a support at one end of a receptacle for goods. f The said brackets areso formed that the ribs 6 of each bracket are parallel with the ribs 6 of the brackets on the other uprights f across the gap, so that slideways are thereby formed for the introduction of the receptacles shown by dotted lines. The'under side of each bracket may be pro- The web 3 outside the vided with lugs 8 and the brackets placed at cast in or secured to the ends of the spider e, and the molding d performs the function of the lugs 8 in connection with the upper tier of boxes.
The herein-described rack or cabinet is particularly designed for displaying spices and other merchandise which is put up in packages and'packed and shipped in boxes of standard size. Upon receiving ashipment of goods so packed it is only necessary to undo the lid or cover of the box, which is usually hinged at one edge, and place the same in the display-rack with the cover outermost, and it will be understood that the cover of the box may be held in a raised position by any suitable means to display its contents, or thecover may be kept closed and provided with a label facsimile of the contents of the box, so as to give the appearance at all times of a full box of goods.
I claim as my invention p I 1. A display-rack, comprising a base and standard, frame parts revolubly mounted thereon, uprights connecting said frame parts, and means secured to said uprights for receiving and holding boxes of packages to be displayed that extend across between said uprights.
2. A display-rack comprising a base, a standard secured thereon, frame parts revolubly mounted on said base and standard, uprights connecting said frame parts, and brackets secured to the said uprights and adapted to receive and hold boxes of packages to be displayed.
3. A display-rack comprising 'a base an standard, frame parts revolubly mounted thereon, uprights connecting said frame parts, means secured to the said uprights for receiving and holding boxes of packages to be dis played that extend across between said uprights, and means for maintaining said boxes in position in the rack.
4. Adisplay-rack,comprisingabase,astandard secured thereon, frame parts revolubly mounted on said base and standard, uprights connecting said frame parts, brackets secured to the said uprights and adapted to receive and hold boxes of packages to be displayed, and means for maintaining said boxes in position in the rack.
5. A display-rack comprising a base and standard secured thereon, frame parts revolubly mounted on said base and standard, up rights connecting said frame parts, triangular brackets secured to the said uprights, a rib and lug on the upper face of each bracket so arranged that a box holding packages to be displayed fits between the ribs on correspondingly opposite brackets and against their said lugs, and means for maintaining said boxes in positionin the rack.
6. A display-rack comprising a base and standard secured thereon, frame parts revolubly mounted on said base and standard, uprights connecting said frame parts, triangular brackets secured to the said uprights, a rib and lug on the upper face of each bracket, so arranged that a box holding packages to be displayed fits between the ribs on correspondingly opposite brackets and against their said lugs, and a lug on the under side of each of said brackets adapted to bear against the upper part of the boxes to keep them in place in the rack.
7. In a display-rack, the combination with a base and standard, of a spider and rack top mounted revolubly on said standard, brackets integral with and at the ends of the legs of said spider, uprights extending between and connected to the ends of said spider-legs and to the rack top, brackets secured at corresponding heights on the inner sides of said uprights and adapted to receive and hold boxes of packages to be displayed, and means for maintaining said boxes in position in the rack.
