UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARVEY G. GEER, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
ATTACHMENT FOR SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters 1 atent No. 752,149, dated February 16,1904.
Application filed December 7, 1903. Serial No. 184,118- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY G. GEER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Suspenders, of which the following is a specification' My invention relates, as already stated, to improvements in attachments for suspenders. Its principal object is to provide a continuous metallic connection between the upper loop of such an attachment and the garment-supporting strap thereof; and it consists'of certain new and useful features of construction and combination of parts especially devised to that end, all as hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of a suspender attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section at the dotted line 2 2 in Fig. 1 of parts there shown. Fig. 3 is an isometrical detailed view of a suspender attachment in process of construction.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
A is the lower portion of the front part of a Suspender, having its end A turned up and secured to a buckle A of the usual or any desired construction, slidable on such suspender for the purpose of regulating the length thereof.
B B are a pair of laterally-elongated loops, formed, preferably, of wire, arranged parallel to each other, and the former connected in the usual manner with its suspender A.
C is a suitable clasp connecting the loops B B together by means of hinge-joint engagements therewith. The clasp C may be composed of the usual tubular portion C, provided at its lower end with an inturned lip C and an angular spring C having a horizontal transverse slot 0* therein for the admission of such lip C.
D is a metal leaf hinge-jointed to the lower loop B.
E is a clip, preferably of leather or canvas, passed through and depending from the loop Bl F is a rivet passed transversely through the clip E and leaf D.
Gr is a garment-supporting strap of the usual or any desired material, suspended by its central portion from the rivet F before the same had been headed down, as in Fig. 2.
It will be observed that the construction herein proposed provides a continuous metallic jointed connection between the parts A and G. Heretofore the metal leaf D has not been employed in suspender attachments, but the entire strain of a garment upon its supporting-strap has been sustained by the clip E, which as a result soon parted at the point where the loop B contacts it. The leaf D in my construction sustains such strain entirely, and the clip E serves simply to retain the central portion of the strap G on the rivet F and is an ornamental covering therefor. The construction herein shown and described eliminates the weak point that has hitherto existed in the connection between a suspender and its garment-connecting attachment.
What I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is'
In an attachment for suspenders, in combination, a pair of laterally-elongated loops arranged parallel to each other, a clasp connecting such loops together, a leaf hinge-jointed to'the lower one of said loops, a clip passed through and depending from said lower loop,'
a rivet passed transversely through the clip and leaf and a garment-supporting strap suspended by its central portion from such rivet,
' substantiaily as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARVEY G. GEER.
