COVER FOR EARTHEN CHAMBER VESSELS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,088, dated February 16, 1904.

To all whom, it may concern;

Be it known that I, VVILLIs 0. MILES, acitizen of the United States, residing at'545 Ocean avenue, Jersey City, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Covers for Earthen Chamber Vessels, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 illustrates an earthen chamber vessel with the cover partially broken away and the invention embodied. Fig. 2 is avertical central section through the cover and pocket, showing projections within the pocket to obstruct 'or prevent the contents from working out the opening. Fig. 3 is a partial section showing upright pro ections employed, as stated.

My invention consists of an improvement in earthen chambers whereby the cover employed as a closure thereto may have attached means to purify the vessels, that the offensive odors which arise when the vessel is employed in a bedroom may be abated. To accomplish this result, I mold or attach integral a small pocket or receptacle upon the under side of an ordinary earthen chambercover that is to say, while the vessel and cover are in course of construction at the kiln the pocket is simply attached or added thereto with the possible expenditure of a cent or two and with scarcely any additional weight, and'as convenient for a child to handle as for an adult, and as the pocket is adapted to contain adisinfectant of a mild character, presumably camphor-gum, camphor or tar balls, or scented soap, the odor thereform will not become offensive even in a room with little or no ventilation.

In the invention I do not change the mode of constructing covers from that which is in vogue to-day. The cover remains the same a solid earthen cover with the inventionembodied as in one piece.

B is the usual earthen cover for a bedroomchamber and may be constructed in the form and shape shown or otherwise. Said cover may, however, be constructed of material other than that of earthen (possibly of pulp or agateware) to conform with the chamber for which it is made.

It is not essential that the means thus employed and for the purpose stated he in the form shown, as small blocks or ridges or flange-like partitions within the pocket will produce the same result as the upright projections, Said projections or equiva lent may be placed in any preferred position within the pocket, possibly around or near the opening, to prevent the contents falling out. I/Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with an ordinary earthen cover for a bedroom-chamber, of a small openmouth pocket connected integral upon the under side of said cover, as and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination, With an ordinary earthen cover for a bedroom-chamber, of a small open-.
