UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES MILWAIN, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED CARRIAGE-RUGS AND FOOT-POCK ETS.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. [75,252, dated March 28, 1876 application filed January 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES MILWAIN, of the city and county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented a Combined Oarriage-Rug and Foot-Pocket, of which the following is a full and exact description:
The object of my invention is to protect the feet of the occupants of vehicles during cold weather; and for this purpose I construct a mg, as herein described, having a pocket combined therewith for receiving the feet.
. In the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, Figure l is a plan view of my improved rug, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section.
As shown in 'the drawing, A is the rug, made of any suitable kind of peltry, with its hair side placed uppermost to atford a comfortable cushion for the feet. Across its upper side, on itsfront edge, the foot-pocket B is attached thereto; it should be made of fur, with its hair side down, so that the entire interior of the pocket will be lined with fur. For this purpose the refuse scraps of fur may be used,
as the piece forming the pocket is entirely hidden from View. A diversity of quality or colors in the fur will not be objectiox-lable, an d by constructing them in this manner their cost is merely nominal.
In use the rug is plac d in the bottom of the vehicle, in the usual manner, and the feet of the occupants inserted therein, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the feet are thoroughly protected from the cold air.
My combined rug and foot-pocket may be used with any kind of robe or blanket for protecting the lap and limbs, and during mild weather it may be used like an ordinary rug by simply placing the feet upon the outside of the pocket.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the carriage-rug A with the foot-pocket B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JAMES MILWAIN.
