J. R. WEISIGER, OF DANVIL LE, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent No. 75,088, dated March 3, 1 868; antezlatad February 28, 1868;
IMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. R. WEISIGER, oi Danvillc, in the county of Boyle, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and improved Pump; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description-thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The pumpembraoed in the present invention. is intended for raising water from wells, cisterns, tanks, docks,-
&c., and in its construction and arrangement of parts is simple and cheap, as well as possessed of great cape city of action. In the accompanying plate of drawings, my improved pump is illustrated-.-
Figure 1 being a side view and elevation of the same, and Figure% a horizontal section, taken in the plane of the line a: 2:, fig. 1. Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. p v A, in the drawings, represents a cylinder orcasc, closed upon all sides, but, at'B,'provided with a series of a ertures, G, communicating with the inner chamber, D, to the cylinder A, formed by means of the radial partitions E therein. In each of these partitions E is an opening, F, provided with a valvc-plate,'G, opening into the chamber of the main cylinder or case A. I, a vertical shaft, turning in bearings, at the centre of the case A. This shaft I is made hollow, and extends through the centre of the case, and has thereinsecured a head, J, of suitable shape to fit the inside of the case. This head J is made hollow, and is in communication withthe hollow shaft I, and, in its two side-plates, k, has an opening, L, each'of which is closed by a valve-plate, M, opening into the head I. N, a pinion, on shaft I, outside of case A, with which pinion engages a toothed rack or bar, 0, arranged to slide forward and backward in uprights P, when operated by and through the levers Q, connected therewith, or by any other suitable means. By moving the rack-bar 0 forward and backward, the head is moved around within the case A, with a forward and backward motion to and from tho partition-plates therein, whereby the water is drawn into the chamber H of the case, and from that forced up and through the centre shaft I, as is obvious without any further explanation.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The construction and arrangement of the hollow shaft I,-.-having at its lower end the hollow head J, pr 0- vided with valve M, the uprights P, arms Q, rack O, and pinion, all operating as described, for the purpose specified.
2. Thearrangement of the radial plates E, having valves G, hollow head J, having valves M, hollow shaft I, cylinder A, uprights P, rack-O, arms Qfand pinion, as herein described, for the purpose specified.
J. R. -WEISIGER.
