Letters Patent lvm-81,681, dated September 1, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN PUMPS.
@its Stimuli :stemt it in tten Enters @atentan mating mi nf tti: tame.
Be it known vthnt I, JOHN PoPPE, of Green Point, in the country ot' Kings, and State oi New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rotary Pumps;` and I do hereby declare that the following is n. full,
clear, and exact descriptonthereof, which will enable those skilledn the art to make and use the same,
reference being hud to the accompanying drawings, forming port; of this specification, in which The figure-is a. detail view of a portion of my improved pump, illustrating myimprovemeht. i
My invention has for its ,object to simplify the construction and improve the operation of my improved rotary pump, petented December 5, 186'?, and numbered 71,786. l
nd it consists inthe construction and combination of the parts by mennsof-which the drop-valve or gate is operated, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents one side ofthe Banged outer case of the pump.
B represents the interior wheel to which the valve H is snatched, and by which said valve is carried around through the circular tubular chau-nel G. Y I I C is an inclined arm, attached to the valve H, and to the wheel B, so that when the valve H is carried around to the valve-plate L, the said inclined arm C will raise the said valve-plate L, allowing the said valve I-I` to pass the scid .valve-,plete L, ns shown in the figure, v
The stem 0 ofthe vulve-plate L passes up.through the discharge-chamber M, and its upper end enters and works in a. wuter-tighL socket or recess, P, attached to the top plate of the discharge-chamber M, es shown in the drawing. i
N is the discharge-orifice of the discharge-chamber M, which may be formed through the end,`side, or to of said chamber M, as circumstances -may require or render adviseble.
Y By this construction, the complicated arrangement described in patent No. 71,786 is rendered wholly unnecessary, thus simplifying the construction of the pump, and at the seme time increasing its eiiiciency.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the-inclined arm C, with the valve H, wheel B, and valve-plate L, substantially as herein shown and described. and for the purpose set forth.
The above speciiicationof my invention signed by me, this 9th day of June, 1868. t
