GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,467, dated December 29, 1903. Application filed January 28, 1903- Serial No. 140,946. (No model.)

Be it known that I, MINOT A. BEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chelmsford, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a game apparatus; and the object of the same is to provide a simple form of amusement which will accurately train the eyes and hands.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a game apparatus embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same.
Similar nu merals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the views.
The numeral 1 designates a plain field, which is of circular box-like form, having a base 2 and an upstanding surrounding flange or rim 3. The upper surface of the base 2 adjacent to its periphery will have represented thereon pictures of a horse, cow, fox, skunk, weasel, rat, and hawk, or other objects. (Not shown.) A star 4 is defined on the upper surface of the base 2, and at the points and inner angles thereof sockets 5 are formed to receive playing pieces or balls 6, which in the present instance are twelve in number. In the center of the upper portion of the base 2 a pocket 7 is provided, and thereover an object 8 is secured and in the present construction of the apparatus is represented as a hen, having a cavity 9 formed in the body thereof with openings 10 at the base of the same on opposite sides of the object or hen. The sockets 5 obstruct the movement of the playing pieces or balls 6 over the field and may be used in some instances to pursue a certain mode of playing the game; but ordinarily the object of the game is to assemble all of the playing pieces or balls 6 under the hen 8 by causing said playing-pieces to move through the openings 10. During this operation the playing-pieces that are disposed under the hen are held in the pocket 7 in part and against the surrounding wall of the cavity 9 between said openings,
and to arrive at the result sought all of the playing-pieces must be disposed under the hen, and during the manipulation of the device to accomplish this care must be taken to avoid escape of any one or more of the said playing-pieces that have been disposed under the hen while attempting to place other pieces thereunder. During the manipulation of the device great nicety will be required to avoid obstruction of the playingpieces by the sockets 5.
The field or upper side of the base 2 may be suitably colored or made to represent a ground-surface.
The improved game apparatus herein disclosed is termed the brood of chickens, the playingpieces representing the chickens and the object in the center a hen in position to hover the playing-pieces or chickens. It will he understood, however, that other titles may be given to the game apparatus and any object desired placed on the center of the base 2.
Having thus fully described the invention, What is claimed as new is- 1. A game apparatus comprising a flat solid base having a surrounding rim, a central pocket and sockets at intervals in concentric relation to said pocket, an object being disposed over the central pocket and formed with an under cavity, and openings in the wall of the cavity at separated points around the latter to provide means of communication with the exterior of the object, and movable playingpieces.

A game apparatus comprising a solid base having an upstanding rim, the said base having a star defined thereon with a pocket in the center thereof and sockets at the points and inner angles, an object secured over the central pocket and having an under cavity with openings in the wall thereof leading to the exterior, the sockets being in concentric relation to the pocket and object, and playing-pieces.
