MIOHAELRIEDINGER, OF YORKVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME- BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,234, dated February 23, 1875 application filed July 29, 1874.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL RIEDINGER, of Yorkville, Dearborn county, Indiana, have invented a new and useful Game-Table, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a new device or toy for the amusement of the young.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 an axial section.
My table A is preferably of the represented octagonal contour, and is protected around its margin by the curb or rampart B. The floor C descends slightly from the periphery to the center. Rising from said floor are a series of barriers, D, in the form of arcs of concentric circles, each barrier being located so as to screen the gaps or portals E of those on either side, in the manner shown. F are rounded stumps or impediments, which rise a short distance above the floor O, opposite the ports. G are numbered spots, on which to set the movable pieces or puppets H. I are immovable pieces surrounding the central spot, which latter has the highest number on the board. J is a'spinning-top, which may be spun by a cord passed through a hole, b, on one side of the rampart.
The floor may be covered with pictures, of which those nearest the margin may represent the more humble associations of life, and so on, by progressive steps in grandeur, to royalty in the center.
The top J may have the resemblance of a deaths head, or other symbolical figure, or it may represent some noted political or historical personage, and the central piece his chief rival.
While preferring a complete octagon, I may in some cases give the board a segmental shape, such as would be produced by giving the barrier the form indicated by the dotted line.
A drawer or other receptacle, K, may be arranged beneath the table A, for the purpose of containing the pins and top when not in use.
I claim as new and of my invention- The game-table A, of octagonal contour, depressed toward the center, and having the peripheral curb or rampart B, and the congeries of barriers in arcs of concentric circles D, having portals E, said floor having stumps or impediments F and numbered spots G at suitable intervals, for the reception of pieces or puppets to be used in connection with a spinning-top, substantially as represented.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
MICHAEL RIEDINGER.
