Beit known that I, COLLIS WOOD, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Victoria, in the Province of British Columbia and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Necktie-Fastener,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a class of necktieholders adapted to engage a button or stud on the neckband of a shirt at the front and hold the tie in place thereon, and has for its object to provide a device of the character indicated having novel details of construction that adapt it for a convenient and reliable clasping attachment upon the center and rear side of a necktie and also for a secure but readily detachable engagement with the front stud or button on the neckband of the shirt, so as to hold the tie in correct position thereon with regard to a permanent or attached shirt-collar.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described, and defined in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement attached upon a necktie for service. Fig. 2 is aside view of a shaped blank of plate-metal, which by the bending of its members becomes a completed tie clasp and holder embodying the improvements. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device formed for attachment upon the fabric of a necktie. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the clasp and holder substantially on the line 4 4 in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is an upper edge view of the improved tie clasp and holder, showing its members bent into the forms they assume when the device is clasped upon a necktie; and Fig. 6 is a side edge view of the same with the members thereof bent as represented in Fig. 5, seen in the direction of the arrow in said figure.

As shown in Fig..2, the plate-metal blank is marginally shaped at one end to provide two opposite side members or hook-limbs 10, that are tapered edgewise toward their ends and together join a web-plate 11, that merges into the wider crown portion 12, from which centrally projects a flat shank-plate 13, that may be apertured to lighten it, as shown at a, and above said aperture is furcated to provide two spaced holder-limbs 14, the opening l?, that spaces said limbs apart, being preferably ovate in form, as defined by the shape of the inner edges thereof.

At each side edge of the shank 13 and integral with the crown portion 12 two similar clasping-ngers l5 are respectively formed, which while in flat condition extend at each side edge of the holder-limbs 14 in the same plane therewith.

To shape the blank that has been described so as to complete it as a tie clasp and holder, the fingers 15 and shank portion 13 are first bent transversely on the line :c a: in Fig. 2, so as to produce an obtuse angle y thereon, as shown in Figs. 3, 4, and 6. The members 12 and 15 are again bent on the parallel line at a suitable distance from the bend y, this angular bend j returning the crown portion 12 and the hook-limbs 10 in a plane about parallel with the upstanding holder-limbs 14 and spaced therefrom by a portion. of the shank 13. The crown portion l2 is now disposed upright and the hook-limbs l extend oppositely at or near the lower ends of the holder-limbs 14 and spaced therefrom, as before indicated.

Preliminary to the attachment of the device upon a necktie A, that may be in doublebowed form, with the usual band A at the center, the clasping-ingers may be bent upward, so as to dispose them at the front side of the hook-limbs l0 and spaced therefrom, the improved clasp and holder now appearing as represented in Fig. 3, ready for attachment upon the necktie A. In applying the device to the necktie the fingers 15, that are pointed at their free ends, are inserted through the fibrous material of the tieband A', near the lower folded edge thereof, and passed upward upon vthe inner side of said tie-band. The free ends of the fingers 15 are bent rearward and forced through the ply of the necktie-band, so that they project at the rear side thereof a short distance. removably secure the necktie from lateral or` 5, these hooks having engagement with respective side edges on the necktie-band A.

The rearwardly bent end portions of the elasping-fingers 15 are now folded down over the hook-limbs 10 and compressed thereon, as shown in Fig. 1, which securely fixes the improved clasp upon the inner or rear side of the necktie-band A' and central with regard to the bow portions of the necktie.

The usual or any approved neckband A2 may be provided for the necktie to secure it upon the neck of the wearer around the lower part of the shirt-collar, and it will be seen that the forked limbs 14, that are projected upwardly, may be caused to embrace a button or stud of any preferred style that holds the ends of the collar in place and be slipped under the lapped ends of the collar, and thus upward displacement after the necktie-band A2 is secured around the neck of the wearer.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A necktie-holder formed of a single piece of material and comprising a forked member, two clasping-ngers at the side edges of the forked member and a pair of oppositely-extended hook-limbs joined to the forked member by a web portion and a crown, that are return bent, so as to space the hook-limbs from the forked member and dispose them substantially parallel therewith. l

2. The combination with a necktie, of a clasp and holder', comprising a plate-metal shank, two spaced holder-limbs formed on the upper end of the shank, a widened crown portion integral with the lowel` end of the shank, two clasping-Iingers formed on the crown at the side edges of the shank, a neck or web extending from the crown, and two opposite hook-limbs formed on the web, the hook limbs being disposed opposite the holder-limbs by return-bending the shanks and having hooks formed on their ends, to engage side edges of a band on the necktie, the clasping-fingers that are loop-bent passing through the tie-band at two points and having their free ends folded upon the hooklimbs, so as to secure the holder-limbs upright and spaced from the rear side of said necktieband.
