Paritair Orricn BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters atent No. 744,85 5, dated November 24, 1903. 'Application tiled July l, 1903. Serial No. 163,851. (No model.)
T0 all whom, it may con/cern:
Be it known that we, GUSTAV BEGKER,a citizen of the United States of America, and ROB- ERT J. SPRENGER,a subject ofthe King of England, both residents of Chicago, Cool; county, Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention contemplates an improved box adapted to contain candy, soap, or various other articles.
Generally stated, the object of our in vention is to provide an improved, simple, and serviceable box for use in any desired manner.
A special object is to provide an improved paper boX comprising a plurality of relatively adjustable sections or compartments so arranged that the box may be filled with candy, soap, or the like and opened in such manner as to attractively display its contents.
It is also an object to provide certain details and features of improvement tending to increase the general efficiency and serviceability of a box of this particular character.
To the foregoing and other useful ends our invention consists in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying` drawings, Figure lis a perspective of our improved box in a folded or closed condition. Fig. 2 is a perspective of our improved box in an unfolded or open condition.
As thus illustrated our improved boX may comprise upper and lower sections or compartmentsAand B, which are adapted to contain various articles or commodities and which are swingingly connected by links C, provided at each end of the box. The upper compartment A is preferably provided with a bottom extension a of its rear wall and also with a swinging cover a. Thus constructed the boX is adapted to be completely folded and closed, as shown in Fig. 1, or to be com pletely unfolded and drawn apart, as shown in Fig. 2. i/Vhen closed and folded, the box presents a compact and neat appearance and is of aA strong and serviceable character.
l When drawn apart, the upper compartment or section A has its front part resting on the top of the lower compartment, while its rear portion is supported by the extension a, which acts as a leg to support the back of the compartment. In this way both the compartments can be filled with the desired articles or commodities, and when drawn apart the box can be placed in a showcase or in a window, and its contents will be displayed in an attractive and effective manner. The construction being simple and compact makes it possible to manufacture the box at a comparatively low ligure. The construction can be modified more or less without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Vhat we claim as our invention is- A box comprising upper and lower sections,
the two sections being connected by a single pair of links, said links being adapted to permit the upper section to be drawn back until its front wall is directly above the back wall of the lower section, and a swinging cover secured to the back wall ofthe upper section, said back wall of the upper section being extended downwardly throughout the entire length of the box, whereby said downward extension is adapted, when the sections are brought together, to entirely cover the back Wall of the lower section, and whereby the back of the upper section is supported throughout its entire length when the sections are drawn apart, substantially as shown and described.
Signed by us at Chicago, Illinois, this 29th day of June, 1903.
GUSTAV BECKER. ROBERT J. SPRENGER.
