PATENT OFFICE.
BOTTLE-HOLDER.
SI ECIFI CATTCN forming part of Letters Patent No. 743,914, dated ll'ovember 10, 1903&
Application filed August 10, 1903. Serial No. 168.991. (No model.)
To all whom it may'concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT LoWnY Mc- MURRAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Holders; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a nursing-bottle holder, and'is designed to provide a simple, effective, and convenient supporting-frame by means of which a nursing-bottle may be supported in proximity to or upon a crib,
chair, or bedstead and the bottle held in such manner that it may be adjustable to enable the infant to have ready access to it.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichmay be of any desired construction to suit the purpose and may be rigid upon the ends of the rod or adjustably secured thereto in any approved manner. In the present instance I have shown the legs formed with eyes 2 to receive the ends of the bar 1, which are threaded to receive clampingnuts 2*. Slidable longitudinally on the rod is a head or sleeve 3, which is provided with a set-screw 4 for fixing it in adjusted position thereon. This head or sleeve is provided with a verti cal bore or passage threaded for the reception of a vertical stem or rod 5, which is adapted to be held in adjusted position by a set-screw 6. The lower end of the rod has a cross piece or bar 7, which carries the bottle -holder 8,
.gle for use.
the same consisting of spring-jaws 9 and 10, preferably formed of a single piece of wire. As shown, the central portion of the wire is bent to form a coil 10, which engages one end of the cross-piece, and the wire is then bentnpward to form the opposing sides of the opposite spring-jaws, then bent'laterally, as at 11, to provide neck-clamps, and thence extended downwardly to form the opposite opposing sides of the clamps and having their ends bent to form a coil 12, engaging the 0pposite end of the cross-piece and soldered or otherwise united at 13. In the present instance the holder is secured in position by threading the ends of the cross-piece and applying thereto nuts 14, which engage the said coil; but any other preferred means of retaining the holder in position may be employed. It will be observed that the spring action of these jaws will insure the firm'detention of the bottle in position, and the jaws may be made of any suitable form and size to suit the form and character of the bottle to be used. If so desired, a hook 11* may be slidably mounted on one jaw of the clamp and adapted to en gage the other jaw to limit the expansion of such jaws.
In the operation of the invention it will be readily understood that by means of the sliding head and set-screws the holder may be adjusted horizontally on the central bar and vertically by means of the central stem and that it may be also axially adjusted by the turning of the head upon the central rod to set the bottle at any desired convenient an- The construction is such that while the bottle is firmly supported in position it may beadjusted at any point along the crib or chair to enableit to be readily reached by the infant.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, it is thought, without requiring a more extended explanation. I
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificingany of the advantages of clamp mounted upon the cross-piece, sub- 10 the invention. stantially as described.
Having thus described my inventionflvhat In testimony whereof I have hereunto set Iclaimas new, and desire to protect by Letters 1 my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- Patent, is-- nesses.
