PATENT OFFICE.
DEVICE FOR DISPLAYING AND STRETCHING GLOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letterslatent No. 743,276, dated November 3, 1903.
Application filed December 8,1902. Serial No. 134,863- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN V. HAMMACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksondale, in the county of Princess Anne and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Displaying and Stretching Gloves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for displaying and stretching gloves;
and one object of my invention is the provision of a device which will have'a large capacity for displaying and stretching gloves and which can be adjusted to the most desirable position for obtaining the bestdisplay.
Another object of my invention is the provision of 'a device of this character which will be of ornamental and attractive appearance, which can be easily taken apart or assembled, and which while insuring a large display will occupy a very small amount of space.
Another object of myinvention is the provision of a device of the character stated which will be inexpensive and durable in construction and which will be thoroughly efficient-and practical in every particular.
With theseobjects in view my invention consists of a glove display and stretching device embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the details of construction and the manner of using my device may be fully understood and its numerous advantages fully appreciated, I have illustrated inv the accompanying drawings a device constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device with the standard or column adjusted at an incline to more clearly show the manner of exhibiting and the details of construction. Fig. 2 represents a detail sectional view taken through the hub of one of the exhibiting-wheels. Fig. 3 represents a detail View of one of the clamps for holding a glove-form. Figs. 4 and 5 represent detail views of a portion of the adjusting device.
In the drawings, the letter Adesignates the base or support provided with the hollow stem B, in which fits the shank 0, having a collar D, which rests upon the stem of the support, and above the collar is formed a disk E, having teeth F, which teeth engage similar teeth on the head or disk G, formed at the lower end of the upright H, and the disks receive a clamping-screw J, which secures the disksto give any desired incline to the said standard. From this construction it will be observed that the standard may be adjusted and retained at any desired angle to give the most desirable display, and the standard is provided with a series of shoulders K, upon which rest the plates L, having an annular channelM, and above the plates rest the hubs N, having a similar annular chan- -ne1 O, which forms a track for the balls P,
making a ball-bearing connection between the standard and hub, and upon the tops of the hubs rests a collar Q, retained in place by a binding-screw R. From this construction it will be noticed that the hub may be rotated with ease, and when desired to retain the hub I employ the set-screw S, (clearly shown in Fig. 2,) which bears upon the standard and holds the hub rigid. From the hubs extend the spokes T, to which are connected the circular rims U, which rims are formed with recesses V, which receive the clamps W, which support the forms X, upon which the gloves are received and which form the means for displaying and stretching the glove.
I have shown and described my device as particularly adapted for use in displaying and stretching gloves; but I would have it understood that I reserve the right to use my device in any situation or for any purpose where it would perform its functions in an efficient manner.
I claim-- I 1. A device of the character described, consisting of a base or support, a standard adj ustably and rotatably mounted upon the base or support and devices adjustable and removable and carried by the standard for displaying and stretching gloves.
2. A device of the character described, consisting of a base or support, a standard mounted upon the base or support, a series of wheels carried by the standard, and forms or holders mo adjustably and removably clamped and carried by the wheels to receive the devices for display.
3. A device of the character described, consisting of a base or support, a standard rising from said support, said standard being adj ustable and rotatable on said support, a series or support, a series of exhibiting-wheels rotatably mounted on said standard, said wheels having recesses on their rims, means for securing the wheels stationary when desired and exhibiting devices carried by the wheels, and secured in the recesses of the rims of said wheelsl 5. A device of the character described, consisting of the support having a stem formed with a socket, a shank fitting in said socket and rotatable therein, a standard having its lower end adjustably secured to said shank, a clamp connecting the standard and shank, a series of wheels rotatably mounted on the standard and display devices carried by said wheels and adjustable on and detachable from said wheels.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
