SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,616,
dated September 22, 1903.

To all, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED F. OXLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Bottle, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is designed to provide a bottle of novel construction and utility; and it consists of the construction hereinafter described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation. Fig. 2 shows the parts detached. Fig. 3 is a View in longitudinal section.
Heretofore I have made several attempts to effect an unrefillable bottle, but have come to the conclusion that the only practical way to preventa bottle from being refilled is to destroy the bottle, at least as a bottle; but in order to have this done there should be an adequate objectto secure this end, and. I believe that my present invention has solved this problem.
My bottle is made, essentially, in two sections, the top being constructed analogous to the top of any ordinary bottle, the bottom, however, consisting of a tumbler or glass of any suitable construction, the two sections or parts being so constructed as to be fitted together and are made perfectly tight in the union of the two in any suitable manner, as by a gasket.
' In the drawings, a represents the top of the bottle, which may, as above observed, be constructed in the form of a top of any ordinary bottle, except that the lower end of this top or upper section is formed with a downwardlyprojecting extension (indicated at h) formedv with a shoulder 0 intermediate the ends of said extension. The lower edge f of the section 0.- projects laterally about saidextension, as shown. Any desired tumbler or glass is shown at d, the upper end thereof fitting over the upper portion of the extension b and against the lower edge f of the upper section a. To make the union of the tumbler and the upper section of the bottle tight, I locate about the lower end of the extension and below the shoulder 0, preferably, any suitable gasket, (indicated at 6,) preferably a cork gasket, although I do not limit myself to any particular material of which the gasket may be constructed. The gasket will fit so closely within the tumbler as not only to make the joint tight, but will cause the tumbler to adhere to the upper section of the bottle, so that the two will not be liable to be inadvertently separated. An ordinary label, (indicated at 9,) located about the joint between the top of the glass and the lower edge of the section a, would 'further secure the parts firmly together, concealing also the joint. When the bottle has been emptied, the label could be severed at the point of meeting of the upper edge of the tumbler with the lower edge of the bottle above the extension 0, when the tumbler could be detached from the upper section and be preserved and employed for any desired purpose, the tumbler being ordinarily of more value than the entire bottle to the consumer. The construction is such that it would not pay purchasers of old bottles to buy the tops and tumblers to fit, and therefore the tops of the bottles could be destroyed without particular loss to the consumer.
lVhat I claim as my invention is- A bottle comprising upper and lower de-' tachable sections, one of said sections provided with an extension to enter the other section, said extension constructed with a shoulder intermediate its upper and lower ends, and a gasket located about the lower end of the extension below said shoulder.
