SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPa'tent No. 739,409, dated September 22, 1903. Applioation filed May 4, 1903. Serial No. 155,611. (No model.)
struction, efficient in operation,one in which the extension leaf or leaves will be carried by the extension rails or barsand normally occupy a position beneath the stationary leaves, and one in which the parts may be readily arranged for extending the table.
To these ends the invention comprises the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described;

Referring tothe drawings, l indicates the stationary section of a table-top, which is secured to a framework comprising verticallydepending side boards 2, connected by transing end board 4. Secured in any suitable manner beneath the stationary portion of the table-top and extending longitudinally thereof in parallel relation, are a -pair of guiderails 5 5, provided upon their inner faces with longitudinal grooves 6, which receive correspending tongues 7, formed upon the adjacent faces of longitudinallymovable extensionrails 8,to the outer endsof which" there is secured by screws or otherwise a movable end board 9, which is movable with the extensionrails and serves when the parts are in their normal position to close the adjacent end of the supporting-frame. 17 indicates an extension-leaf whichV has secured to its under face adjacent to each extension=rail 8 apairof alinedspaced elevating-blocks 18 19, lwhich when the extensionleaf occupies its normal position beneath the table and resting upon the rails 8lie within the spaces between the center block 12 and respective end blocks, as shown in Fig. 1, but which when the leaf occupies its extended position, as illustrated in Fig. 3, rest upon the supporting- blocks 12 and 13, respectively, for maintaining vthe leaf in an elevated position flush with the stationary section 1 of the table- 20 indicates a lug or stop whichv projects laterally from the block 18 near its lower end, while 21 is a similar lug projecting laterally Vfrom the block 19.
22 is a socketed block or member which is secured inany-suitable manner to the lower face of the stationary section 1, and 23 is a transverse brace or member secured to the lower face of the extension-leaf 17 and provided with an extended portion or tongue 24, which when the parts are in the position illustrated in Fig. 3 enters the socketedmember l desired to extend the table, the end board 9 is grasped' and the extension-bars 8 drawn outward a distance sufficient to move the leaf IOO 17 from beneath the stationary section 1. The operator then grasps the leaf 17 at opposite ends and raises the same vertically upward until the stops 20 21 come into engagement with the respective arched portions 16 of the guide member lll. The leaf 17 is then moved outward until the elevated blocks 18 19 rest upon the supportingeblocks 12 13, the parts being brought to the proper position owing to the stops 20 21 traveling along the guide 14. The guide-rails 8 are then shoved inward until the tongue 24 of member 23 engages the socketed member 22. To close the table requires simply a reversal of these steps.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I produce a device which is simple of construction, efficient in operation, and one which is admirably adapted for the attainment of the ends in view; but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise details herein shown and described, inasmuch as minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit or scope of my invention. For example, While I have herein illustrated the table as provided with but a single extension-leaf, it is to be understood that as many such leaves as are desired may be employed and that they may be arranged at either or both ends of the table by a mere duplication of the parts herein described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a table, the combination With a stationary top-section, of guide-rails associated therewith beneath the same, longitudinally-mow able extension-rails associated with the guiderails, supporting-blocks carried by the eX- tensiou rails, 'an extension leaf, elevatingblocks carried Ithereby for engagement with the supporting-blocks to maintain the leaf in elevated position when extended, guide members attached to the extensionrails and comprising horizontal Wires having upwardlyarched portions, and stops carried by the elevating-blocks for engaging the arched portions of the Wires to limit upward movement of the leaf. l y
