This invention relates to improvements in sealing devices for envelops, particularly envelops for expressing money or other valuables, the object being to provide a simple' i device for this purpose that may be quickly sealed and the use of wax and tape or ribbon be dispensed with. y

I will describe an envelop-sealer embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in ywhich similar characters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures.

Referring first to the envelop shown in Figs. 1 and 2, 10 designates the front of the envelop, l1 the back, and 12 the flap on the yupper edge of the front adapted to fold over upon the back. Overlapping flaps 13 and 14 extend from the ends of the front end and engage upon the back of the envelop. As an additional safety I provide an auxiliary or inner flap 15, which is secured to the inner side of the front of the envelop and folds upon the overlapping portion 14. Instead of using mucilage or other adhesive for securing the parts I preferably employ metal fastenthe fingers are engaged against the inner surface of the disk 17, and then the ends are turned outward to form fastening-prongs 20. These fastening-pron gs 20 are passed through the flap, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and the eyes 19 are also passed through the flap, and

then a wire ring 2l is -passed through the several eyes. This will effectually hold the disk in position, and it cannot be removed without mutilating the flap.

Coacting with the fastening member just described is the inner fastening member, consisting of a concave disk 22, secured to the inner sides of the overlapped portions 13 and 14. 4 As a means for fastening this inner disk,

it is provided at its edge with fingers 23, designed to be passed through the portions 13 and 14 and turned down against the portion 14.

In sealing the envelop the flap 12 is to be turned down and the prongs 20 forced through the material, and when the ends engage with the concave disk 22 the prongs will be turned outward. A suitable machine may be proor, as it may be termed, a clenching-disk,

vided for this purpose. If the prongs are sufficiently light and flexible, however, the parts may be pressed by a persons fingers.

The inner or auxiliary flap 15 is provided with a sealing device consisting of a disk 24, attached by means of prongs or fingers to the flap and having portions or fingers 25 turnedl inward and provided with prongs, as in the fastener first described, and these prongs are turned outward by means of a concave plate 26, secured to the inner side of the back of the envelop.

In Fig. 4 the fastening device is similar to that first described; but the envelop has an auxiliary flap portion 27 extended from the upper edge of its back and designed to turn into the envelop.

Having thus described my invention, I

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I. Anenvelopsealer comprising a disk attached to the liap of the envelop and having prongs, a fastening-Wire engaging with the disk and with the envelop' and a clenchingdisk secured to the envelop, the said clenching-disk being concaved to force the prongs outward when pressed against the same.

An envelop-sealer comprising a disk,por tions extended from the edge of said disk 'inward and then outward to form prongs, eyes being formed in said portions at the edge of the disk, a wire passed through said eyes and engaging against theinner side of the envelopiiap, while the disk engages the outer side thereof, and a clenching-disk secured to the back portion of the envelop.
