PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM J. CUNNINGHAM, OF CHICOPEE FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE SPALDING MANUFACTURING COMPANY,: OF CHICOPEE FALLS,

SUPPORT. FOR STElKlNG-BAG DISKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 732,396, dated June 30, 1903.
Application filed February 13,1903. Serial No. l43,24=5. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:-
Be it known that I, WVILLIAM J. CUNNING- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Striking-Bag Disks, of which the following is aspecification.
The present invention relates to an adjustable connection for-a striking-bag disk.
It is desirable, as is well known, to have means for adjusting the height of strikingbag disks, and it is the object of my invention to provide a simple arrangement for this purpose capable of use with any form of disk. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents my invention in connection with a form of disk now being made by the Spaldin gManufacturing Company. Fig. 2 is a side view partly in section.
In the drawings the disk is in the form of a horizontal plate or part A, which supports or carries an inflated ring 13, the bag C being held by a pendent center D.
My invention relates wholly to the supporting means and comprises horizontal pieces E, arranged parallel to each other and securely fastened to the wall, partition, or other place of support. These cross-pieces E are preferably made grooved near their ends, the grooves running vertically, and fitted to these grooves are vertical supports F, to which the horizontal disk A is secured by angle-irons or in any suitable manner. The vertical supports F are slotted on each side of the centerand between the center and the ends by elongated vertical slots passing entirely through the supports, as shown at b. Bolts c are secured in the cross-pieces and extend through the slots in the vertical supports, as shown. 0 A washer is fitted over the end of each bolt and a butterfly-nut d is fitted to the screwthreaded end of the bolt. The adjustment of the disk is effected by loosening the butterfiy-nuts, which allows the vertical supports carrying the disks to be moved up or down,
after which the butterfly-nuts may be tightened and the parts held rigidly in the adjusted position. The disk is braced by bars 1 ports.
6, extending at an angle from the upper ends face of the disk toward the front of the same.
As shown in the drawings, the vertical sup ports consist of the bars to which the disk is attached, said bars extending parallel with each other and being secured to the horizontal supports, which also consist of bars par= allel with each other, and these latter bars ex tend horizontally and are attached to the wall.
WVhat I claim is- 1. In a support for a striking-bag disk, fixed horizontal sup ports, adjustable vertical supports slotted, a set-screw or clamp passing through said slots and a striking-bag disk secured to and moving with the vertical sup- 5 2. In combination in a support for a striking-bag disk the horizontally-extending bars,
a pair of vertically-extending bars adj ustably secured to the horizontal bars to be adjusted vertically, a striking-bag disk secured to the vertically-extending bars and braces connecting the disk with the Vertically-extending bars, substantially as described.
3. In combination in a support for a striking-bag disk supporting means attached to the wall and grooved vertically, a pair of vertically-extending bars fitted to the said grooves, means for holding the vertical bars in the grooves to permit vertical adjustment thereof and a striking-bag disk secured to the vertical bars, substantially as described.
4. In combination in a support for a striking-bag disk supporting means attached to the wall and grooved vertically, a pair of vertically-extending parallel bars fitted to the said grooves and slotted vertically, clamping means passing'through the said slots and holding the parallel vertical bars in the grooves to permit vertical adjustment and a strikingbag disk secured to the vertically-adjustable bars, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
