Description

-@uitrit tates atmtt @ffice oHARLEs-EiLLMoEE, or ROMEO, MICHIGAN, AssiGNoE To HIMSELE AND GEORGE WASHER, 0E SAME PLAGE.
Letters Patent No. 72,832, dated December 31, 1867.
IMPROVED TRACE-BUCKLE.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY ACONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FILLMORE, of Romeo, in the county of Macomb, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A represents the frame of the buckle, which iscastot' suitable sizeand thickness to answer the purpose for which it is designed. Loops are cast at the upper and lower side of this frame, and also at one end. The side pieces of the frame are in irregular shape, having an arch in them, said pieces being connected, near each end, by strong cross-braces. B and D represent metallic cast plates, each having small trunuions cast upon its sides, at oneend. The plate D has a loop cast in one end of it, and plate B has a tongue or pin, C, formed upon its underside, near one end. The short haine-tug F is secured in the loop of plate D. The plate D has two ribs, e e, upon its-inner face, and these ribs are tapering or wedge-shaped. The trunnions of the plate B are caught in the recess of the arches of the side pieces, as seen at x a'.
In using this buckle, the plate D, after having the short tug secured in its loop, is placed in the frame, so that its tapering ribs lie against the forward cross-brace. The plate B then has its trunnions caught in the arches at :e x, with its 'tongueend extending forward. The forward end of the long tug is now passed between the two plates B and D, and the tongue C is caught in a hole in it to secure it When the horse draws, the plate D moves forward with its tapering ribs, tightening the tug E, pressing said tug firmly between it and the plate B, and thus making it fast and secure. Y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The buckle-frame A, and the plates and D, constructed and used together, with the tugs E and F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set myhand and seal, this 8th dayI of October, 1867.
