To ALL WHCM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known `that I, CHARLES H. BACCN, of Springfield, in the county of Clark, and AState of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Stamp for Attaching Post-Ollice and Revenue-Stamps to Papers; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a. full,iclen.r,v and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view,

FigureZ is a vertical section, and

Figure 3 is a'bottom view.

In the several drawings, the same letters are employed in' the indication of, identical parts.

A is a hollow prismatic case, the inner dimensions of which should be the exact size ofthe stamps intended to be used. Into this case is fitted the follower E, attached to a stem, C, passing through the top of the rcase.- u

This stem is surrounded by a spiral spring, D, by which the -follower is raised and held at the top of the case. The case is covered by the cover F, which also supports the sleeve F', surrounding-one-half of the length of the rod C, andof internal diameter suicient to receive the tubeE, the rounded top E Aof which rests'upon the -stem *C and spiral spring D. Knives, G,are attached to the collarl H, which slides over the case A, andthe knives passing Athrough inwardly-converging slots in the case A, corresponding tn their own form` and'size, project within the inner space of the case, presentingpas seen from the slide, the form of right-angled triangles having a narrow base, as shown in the section in'fxg. 2 l use two on the sides, near the ends, and one 'at the middle of the end, but the number may he increased or diminished, if necessary. I have found this number and arrangement best with ordinary postage or small revenue-stamps. Slots corresponding lto the knives are out in the edge of the follower at vB. l 'Y The case is to be -lled. with stamps, by ltaking out the follower and removing the cap F. The inclined edges of the knives G cut the stampl as pressed'down by the' follower, but offer suiiiient .resistance to hold all` the stamps except the one on tlie outside, which adheres to theenvelope or other paper. i The stamp must beplaced in the case with the mueilage-co'ated side down. A damp pad orpiece of sponge is used in connection with the stamp, on which the mucilagev is moistened, and then the stamp placed in position, and the top E struck or pressed with the hand. The follower B presses the stamp, which adheres to the paper, and is drawn from the case, the others' immediately above it being retained by the inclined knives, as already explained. v

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The ease A,` having knives G, with inclined edges projecting' from its interior faces, in combination with the follower B, -substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
