No. 71223490.y PATENTBD MAB. '24, 190s.V J. R. Ross. l BROOM BRIDLB.
APPLICATION FILEDUEB 9, 1902. Ib MODEL.
a UNITED STATES i PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. ROSS, OF JONESVILLE, LOUISIANA.
BROOM-BRIDLE.
ASPECIFICAEIION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,490, dated March 24, 1903.
Application tiled June 9, 1902. SerialNo. 110,829. (No model.)
To all whom it' may concern,.-
Beit known that I, JOHN R. Ross, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jonesville, in the parish of Catahoula and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Broom-Bridles, of which the following is a specification, which is a clear and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
In the drawings like reference characters refer to and denote like parts throughout the several views. i. f
The object of my present invention is to provide a new and improved construction of broom-bridle .over that shown and'described in Patent No. 683,071, issued to me under date of September 24, 1901.
Another object is to provide a broom-bridle of new and novel construction, neat and attractive inl appearance, strong and durable in its construction, capable of a wide vscope of usefulness, quickly and easily adjustedin position, and. which can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low price.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following specification and from the drawings forming a part thereof and from the claim terminating this specification, in which the various improvements are specifically referred to.
I attain the objects sought by the arrangement and combination of the several parts illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
The invention consists in a broom-bridle embodying certain novel and peculiar features and details of construction, combinations, and relative disposition of parts,l as hereinafter particularlyset forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l shows the elevationk of my invention as seen from one side of a broom, showing a broom in dotted lines in order to illustrate the relative position of my invention with reference thereto. Fig. 2 shows an edge view of same, showing both members of the invention. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of my invention, taken on the line X X of Fig. l in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 4 is a detail edge view of the lower portion of my invention as attached to a broom. Fig. 5 is a cross section looking down, taken through the broom-handle immediately above the upper portion of my invention. Fig. 6 is a detail edge view, partly in section, of the upper portion of my invention as attached to a broom.
My present invention consists, essentially, of a ring A, adapted to loosely encircle the handle of a broom; ofthe wire members, each consisting of a single piece of wire, the ends of which are connected to said ring, as shown, by the coils C, with the four ends D of said wire members extending upward a slight distance and adapted to be pressed against the broom-handle by the coils C. Below the coils C each wire is twisted together downward a suitable distance and then branched out at oppositely-disposed angles until the space between each of the parts of the wire members is about equal to the width of the lower portion of the broom proper. The construction Aofeach of the wire members is the same to the point last mentioned, and the two wire members coincide with each other on opposite sides of the broom. The horizontall portions N and K are provided with eyes H and hooks E, respectively, the same being integral parts of the respective horizontal members, as shown in Fig. 3. The eyes and the hooks are both adapted t'o extend in among the fibers` causing the eyes H and hooks E to enter among the fibers of the broom from opposite directions until the hooks E can be inserted in the eyes H, the horizontal portions thus binding the fibers of the broomtogether. Asy the lower ends ofthe bers of the broom Wear off the device can be moved upward to thepoint desired.
My improvements are perfectly adapted to accomplish the objects for which they are intended, and it is evident that changes in and modifications of the specific construction herein shown and described may be made and that TOO of said arms being connected by horizontal members N and K respectively bent to form x5 inwardly-projecting eyes H and hooks e, the upward ends of the arms being Wound around the ring A'With their ends extending n pward, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature zo in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN R. ROSS.
