Tue-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming partf'f Letters Patent N. 723,317, dated March 24, 1903.
`Application led June 24,1902.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS E.` RUSSELL, a citizen of the United States, -resid'ing'at Hoffman, in the county of Park and State of Mon'` 5 tana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tug-Buckles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ro appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
x5 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in tug-buckles, and especially to improvement upon the tug-buckle covered by allowed application, Serial No. 92,833; and it consists in the provision of means for sea trace securely held tothe casing of the buckle.
The invention consists in various details of construction and4 combinations of parts, as
specifically defined in the appended claims. `The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of my imgo proved buckle and fastening device. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the hinged lid. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail in perspective of the locking-pin; and Fig. 4 is an enlarged view of the hinged plate, showing the 3 5 slot in which the locking-pin is disposi-d.`
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the'j'cas` ing of the. buckle, which has longitudinal` flanged edges A, from which project in oppo- 4.o site directions the 1oopsA C, to-which straps are connected `which are .adapted to pass about the bodyr ofan animal. Mounted in the forward end of the iianges is a bolt D, to which a strapis secured, and hinged to one of said longitudinal flanges is a plate F, centrally apertured to receive a pin E, projecting at right angles from thebase ot' the casing. On the outerface of theplate F is a projecting lug` or widened portion F', which 5o has acentral aperture to receive the end of said pin E, and at right angles to said aperseriaiNo'. 113,035; dit man ture is a second aperture H, which is formed `in order to provide means for the reception oi` the nail of a finger ot' an operator, whereby the pin may be pulled out of the aperture in saidvlug. Said head is provided with a laterally-projecting portion K2 at right angles 6o thereto and is cut away at N and is adapted to turn in the angled or oset portion M of the slot M, which is formed in said plate. Said portion K2 is adapted to have a transverse movement in the elongated portion of said slot M andA prevents the pin coming out of the aperture insaid lug by the end of said portion K2 coming into contact with the end of said slot. When it is desired to remove the pin, it is pushed to its farthest 7o inward limit. Then a half-revolution is imparted to the pinsuftlcient to cause the portion K2 to swing out of the odset portion of the slot and rest'in a plane above the outer surface of the plate, after which the pin may be readily removed, as will be understood. When the plate is swung closed, the lockingpin, it will be observed, is inserted through the registering apertures in said lug and in the integral apertured A pin which projects 8o from the base of the buckle, and the plate is securely locked in a closed relation.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 85 l. In combination with a buckle, compris- `ing a casing, an apertured lug projecting from the bottom thereof, a plate hinged to loneof `the longitudinal flanges of the buckle, `.a projecting portion on said `plate which is 9o centrally apertured and adapted to receive said lug, a locking pin adapted to pass 'through registering apertures in said projecting portion and lug, a portion of the head of said `locking-pin designed to turn in the slot in the'plate to lock said pin in place, as set forth.
2. In combination with a buckle compris' ing a casing having flanged edges, an -apertured lug projecting from s 'aid casing'interloo mediate its flanges, a platehinged to one f said iianges, and having a projecting portion which is centrally apertured, a locking-pin slot, said head beingV notched on one of its adapted to be passed through transverse apfaces, as set forth. lo ertures. in said projecting portion, a regis- In testimony whereof I ax my signature tering aperture in said projection, a head on in presence of two witnesses.
