GEORGE B. THORPE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DOOR STOP'AND HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 723,219, dated March 17, 1903.
Application led February 21, 1902. Serial No. 95,086. (No model.)
cation.
My invention relates to improvements that in door-stops hold doors when Open and prevent closing from settling of building or by wind, &c. I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of the device, showing the interlocking parts controlled by flat springsecured to section of wall and door.
Fig. 2 is a top view of spring. Fig. 3 is aV viewof knob. Fig. 4. is a center section view of device, showing the interlocking parts controlled by coilspring.
Similar letters refer to similar parte throughout the drawings. A
The stop or knob B is secured to wall by screw E, and the knob A is secured to the door by screw E', as shown in Fig. 1. Adjusted so as to pass in close proximity when the door is opened the catch D, projecting and controlled by spring G, recedes into stop B when pressed by the edge of knob A, pass- -ing over it when the door is opening, andthen projectssecuring or interlocking the stop or knob Band the knob A, thereby holding the door.
When desiring to close the door, it should be pulled with sufficient force to cause the knob A to press the catch D into the stop or knob B, thereby releasing the door automatically.
The rubber cushion C is to deaden sound and prevent jar. This article can be manufactured, as shown in Fig. 1, with the at steel spring G, having the bend D, secured by screw at one end, which recedes into a groove made in stop B, or, as shown in Fig. 4, vby drilling a hole in stop B, into which coil-spring G is inserted, and the catch D,
having the rim K, is put in and secured by the tube I, which, driven into hole in knob B, reduces the size of the hole, thereby preventing catch D from coming out'farther than desired, but allowing catch D to work freely, so as to automatically catch or interlock the stop B and knob A, as shown in Fig. 4.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let- Aters Patent, is-
The combination of the knob B, having the cushion C, coil-spring G, pin or catch D, inserted, with the knob A, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
