To ALL WHoM IT- MAY ooNoERN: y v
Be it known that I, JOSHUA WHITTEMORE, of South Reading, in the county of Middlesex, ,and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap-Rests; 'andI do hereby declare thatthe following is a full and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. e A
The nature of my invention consists in combining,l with a shelf or soap-rest made in a particular manner, a hook or bracket, all so arranged that it may he attached or detached at pleasure to any tub, pail, or similar vessel.
Toenable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and use. In the drawings- I Figure 1 is a'perspective view of my soap-rest.
Figure 2 is a plan of the same.
Figure 3 is a cross-section of the same.
To make my soap-rest I proceed asfollows: A piece of thin metal is cut in the desired size and form, and,
then perforated with a number of holes, B, &c, said holes being struck up from the under side, so as to present sharp, raised edges.
My object in'making the shelf as above described, is threefold, viz, to secure drainage for the soap; to prevent it from slipping olf; and to hold the soap in such a position that it'm'ay be readily grasped by the hand.
C D E,v gs. 1 and 3, represent a bracket, which is permanently attached to the shelf A. The hook of the bracket passes over the edges of the vessel H, as shown in iig. 3, while the tongue D, which is elastic, presses against the outside of the vessel, thus causing thc whole to remain in position.
From inspection of fig. 3 it will be seen that this bracket will readily adjust itself to di`eren-t thicknesses of the walls of the tub or vessel to which it is applied.
What Iclaim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As anew article of manufacture, a soap-rest, consisting of the shelf Aand bracket and spring D C E, made substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. JOSHUA WI-IITTEMORE.
