MOUTHPIECE FOR CIGARS OR CIGARETTES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 722,383, dated March 10, 1903.
Application filed July 3, 1901. Serial No. 67,003. (No model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEF PRZEDEOKI and LUDWIG PRZEDECKI, manufacturers, of Neudorfstrasse 36, Breslau, Germany, have invented some new and useful Improvements in Mouthpieces for Cigars or Cigarettes, of which the following is a full and clear description.
The present invention relates to a double mouthpiece for cigars and cigarettes with an under layer consisting of asbestos. The cigarette or the cigar is provided with a mouthpiece consisting of two layers, the lower of which is made of asbestos or, better still, of asbestos paper, while for the upper one any suitable material may be usedfor instance, wood-shaving, cork, straw, leaf-gold, metallic paper, or the like. The arrangement of the under layer of asbestos has the essential advantage that the mouthpiece remains cool during the process of smoking.
The accompanying drawings show as illustration a cigarette provided with the aforesaid mouthpiece.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 represents the cigarette with the mouthpiece rolled up.

It Will be noticed that the layers of asbestos and the wood-shaving or other material are coextensive and are only of sufficient length to serve as a mouthpiece. The purpose of the asbestos is to resist the heat or fire and protect the outer layer of material, which is of such a nature as to afford a pleasant contact with the lips.
We claim- As an article of manufacture, a cigarette having a strip or layer of asbestos wrapped around one end only of said cigarette and a strip or layer of suitable material for contact, with the lips encircling said asbestos strip and coextensive therewith, substantially as described;
