To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY R. VAN DEvnN- ran, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Sumter, in the county of Sumter and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to cigars provided with means connected therewith for rendering the cigar ready for smoking without clipping or puncturmg the same.
The objects of the invention are to provide a cigar having an insert in the butt end thereof which may be withdrawn for the purpose of leaving the cigar in condition for smoking; to providea match for such insert said match being covered with paraflin paper or other protective material to secure the same against disintegration when the cigars are placed in a humidor or otherwise brought in contact with moisture.
/ The invention also contemplates providing a band for the cigar which is covered with an abrasive material so that matches may be struck thereon i With these and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts set forth in the following description, more particularly pointed out in the claim, and which are shownin theaccompanymg drawing, wherein The figure is a side elevation, partly in section, of a cigar constructed in accordance with my invention.
Referring to said drawings by numerals:
A cigar 1, of the usual and ordinary type,
has embedded in the puncture 2 formed inv A band 5 encircles the cigar and has abrasive material adhesively attached thereto in the usual and ordinary manner. When it is desired to smoke the cigar th end of the match or the projecting end of the covering is grasped and the match and covering withdrawn. This leaves a puncture in the cigar, and the same is ready for smoking. The match may then be unwrapped or otherwise relieved of its covering and the match used for lighting the cigar. The match may be struck, if desired, on the abrasive material of the band.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
' An article of manufacturecomprising a cigar, a match embedded in the butt end thereof, a waterproof covering for said match, and a tail formed of said covering and extending through the butt of the cigar for the purpose specified.
