Description

. PATENTBD MAR. 3,1903. 0. G. ANDERSON.
GRAGKER BOX RACK.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 12, 1902.
H0 MODEL.-
7 OBNEYS,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OLOF GUSTAF ANDERSON, OF IRONWOOD, MICHIGAN.
cRAcK R-sox RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 721,992, dated March 3, 1903.
Application filed August 12, 1902.
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLOF GUSTAF ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ironwood, in the county of Gogebic and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cracker-Box Backs, of which the following is a specification.
My inventionrelates to improvements in cracker-box racks; and the obj ect of the same is to construct a rackwhich will enable the box to be pulled out, the cover opened, and crackers taken out without the necessity of removing the box from the rack.
The novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a transverse section through my rack, showing one of the boxes with its carriage pulled out in position for opening the cover of thebox. Fig. 2 is a perspective of my carriage and guides.
'Like numerals of reference designate like parts in the different views of the drawings.
The numeral 1 designates a shelf supporting a number of compartments 1, designed to accommodate substantially cubical boxes 2 for holding fancy crackers. A square frame or carriage 3 is slidingly mounted in parallel guides 4, mounted in each of the compartments and secured to the shelf 1. The carriage 3 comprises four parallel angular sides 5, having vertical flanges 6 thereon, between which the box 2 fits. The'flanges 6 are engaged by turned-over rims 7, formed on the guides 4.
To limit the outward movement of the carriages 3, tongues 8 are formed integral with the guides 4 and have their ends turned back to form catches 9, which are located in position to engage the rear side of the carriage 3. The catches 9 are situated about an inch from the edge of the shelf, so that the edge 11 of the shelf will support the box 2 when in its drawn-out position, as shown in Fig. 1. The rear ends of the flanges 6 are rounded off at 6 to permit the carriage to tilt forward.
To place boxes in the compartments 1,
Serial No. 119,401. (No model.)
each of the carriages 3 is withdrawn and a box placed therein, after which the carriage is pushed back in its normal position. When it is desired to take crackers from one of the boxes, the corresponding carriage 3 is drawn out by means of a ring 12 thereon until the catches 9 engage the rear side thereof, when the ring is released, thereby permitting the box to tilt forward and rest on the edge 11 of t the shelf 1. In this position the cover 13 of the boxcan be opened and crackers taken out, after which the front of the box can be raised and the box restored to its place in the rack.
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a cracker-box rack, the combination with a shelf, of guides mounted on said shelf and parallel thereto, a carriage constructed to hold a box, and catches located adjacent to the edge of said shelf and constructed to engage the rear of said carriage to limit the outward movement thereof but to permit the carriage to assume a forwardly-inclined position, the inclination being less than a right angle and resting on the edge of said shelf, substantially as described.
2. In a cracker-box rack, the combination with a shelf, of guides mounted on said shelf, a carriage slidingly mounted in said guides and constructed to hold a cracker-box, and tongues having their ends turned up to form catches located to engage said'carriage to limit its outward movement and to permit it to incline forwardly so that the'lid of said box may be opened, substantially as described.
3. In a rack, the combination of a shelf, a
. carriage for supporting a box, straight guides for said carriage, a stop to limit the outward movement of said carriage, but to. permit it to tilt slightly forward and rest on the edge of the shelf so that the cover of the box may be opened.
4:. In a rack, the combination of a shelf, a
carriage for supporting a box and having par- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set allel flanges thereon rounded OK on the rear my hand in presence of two subscribing witends, parallel guides for said flanges, and nesses.
catches located to engage said carriage to limit OLOF GUSTAF ANDERSON. 5 the outward movement thereof but to permit Witnesses:
it to incline forward, substantially as de- EMIL NYBERG,
scribed. 1 H. F. J AHN.
