SELF-SEALING MoTH-BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 720,461, dated February 10, 1903.
l 'Application led August13,1902. Serial No. 119,531. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, SOPHIA LoUIsA Mo- MILLAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of Winnipeg, inthe Province of Manitoba and Dominion of Canada,
have invented a new and Improved Self-Sealing Moth-Bag, of which the following is a full,
destruction or damage du ring certain seasons of the year.
I will describe a bag embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specication, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures.
Figure lis a side elevation of a bag embodying my invention. Fig. l2 is a longitudinal section thereof. Fig. 3 illustrates the bag as open; and Fig. 4 is a section on the line x. of Fig. l, but drawn on a larger scale.
The bag 1 consists of a waterproof material- -such,'for instance,as rubber or oil-cloth. The mouth sections or portions of the bag are provided vwith jaws 2 3, these jaws consisting each of a strip of material folded upon itself and engaging the material of the bag between the folds, the jawsbeing pivotally connected together, as indicated at 4. The jaws are provided with suitable fastening devices, which are here shown in the form of lugs 5 6, designed to interlock one with another.
Attached toone side member of the mouth of the bag is a guard-strip 7. This guardstrip consists of a strip of metal folded upon itself and embracing the edge of the material depending fromY the jaw member 2, there be- 3 will engage with its inner edge closely against the guard, thus preventing the entrance of moths, dust, or the like.
Suspended within the bag is a hanger 8, upon which clothing may be hung. This hanger S isattached to a rod 9,passing through the jaw member 2 and having a hook 10 at its outer end for engaging with a nail or other device when it is desired to suspend the bag, thus placing it out of the reach of mice and rats.
VThe bag obviously may be made of any desired size, and while I .have shown it as substantially rectangular it may be otherwise shaped without departing from the spirit of `my invention.
Having thus ldescribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A bag, two pivoted jaw members connected with the outlet ends of the bag, and a guard-strip arranged adjacent to one of the jaw members.
2. A bag, pivotedjaw members attached tothe bag, a rod extended through one of the jaw members, a hanger attached to the inner end of said rod, and a hook on the outer end of said rod.
.Y 3. A bag, pivoted jaw members connected thereto, a guard-strip attached to one side of' the bag below one of said jaw members, a rod extended through one of the jaw members,
Vand a hanger attached to the inner end of said rod.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. ,A
SOPHIA LOUISA MCMILLAN.
