ABDOMINAL SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 720,342, dated, February 10, 1 903.
Application filed October 27. 1902. Serial No. 128,872. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DORA GLEASON, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton,
State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Abdominal Supporters, of which the following is a specification. The object of my invention is a supporter for the use of iieshy persons to be used in combination with a corset for supporting the abdomen and holding the buttocks firm, which accomplishes these two purposes withou t bandaging the adjacent parts of the body and without impeding the freedom of movement therein, and which does not chai'e the vulva.
This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front View 'of the supporter embodying my invention in use. Fig. '2 is a side view of the same. Fig.3 isa view similar to Fig. l of a somewhat modified form of my invention. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the supporter.
-Referring to the parts, the belt A of my supporter is to be placed about the'waist of the wearer upon the outside of an ordinary corset B. Upon each side of belt A is secured two V-shaped straps a and (of, which carry clasps a a, which are engaged by rings 0 0' upon the ends of elastic straps O O, which are attached at their other ends to a pad D, which carries a clasp (1 upon its upper edge. Straps C C have slip-buckles 0 0 by means of which their length may be regulated In applying my supporter, belt A having been placed about the waist, as aforedescribed, pad D is passed backward and then forward between the limbs and clasp (Z is socured to a pin 1) upon the lower front end of lower end of corset B.
corset l3. Pad D bears against the lower part of the abdomen. Straps O C assume a position alongside the hips, pass down against the sides of the buttocks to the gluteofemoral crease and thence forward upon the inner side of the thighs and upon the front diverge to the ends of the pad D. It is seen that pad I) pressing against the lower end of the abdomen holds it upward, and the corset being pressed inward holds the abdomen inward, that straps G C pressing inward against thebuttocks holdthem firm, that the straps passing along the sides of the hips engaging the glu'teofemoral creases in the rear are, held against the inner side of each thigh and diverging thence to pad D do not chafe the vulva, and that the proportion of the bony covered by the supporter 'is small, so that there is no bundling sensation nor interference with the freedom of movement. 3
In Fig. 3 is illustrated a modification used for abnormally high abdomens. Pad D has a series of bands (1, d d and (1 attached to it, each carrying a clasp d mortgage the What I claim is- An abdominal supporter to be used in combination with a corset, and consisting of a belt to be placed about the corset at thewaistline, straps secured at each side of the belt to pass down over the hips and alongside of the buttocks and attached to a pad, and the pad to rest against the abdomen and having a means for attaching it to the lower end of the corset, substantially as shown and de- 75 scribed.
