SPRING-BED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,631, dated February 3, 1903. Application filed August 23, 1902. Serial No. 120,759. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. ADE, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Williamsport, in thecounty of Lycoming, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring- Beds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in spring-beds,and more particularly to improvements in the spring-bed for which Letters Patent of the United States were issued to me on August 14, 1900, No. 655,893, and on Novemher 5, 1901, No. 685,898; and the object of my invention is to furnish an improved form of removable head or foot piece and an improved means for securing the springs to the frame of the head or foot piece and to the main body of the mattress.

The mattresses a andb are preferably square, each of their sides being equal in length to the breadth of the bed, so that they may be turned in the bed, as is usual, to prevent their being worn in one place.
A bed of this kind is longer than wide, and in order to supply the necessary length I make use of my removable head or foot piece, which, it will be understood, may be secured to both or either the head or foot of the mattress. Upon each side of each corner of the mattress a are pins Z m, so that any side of this mattress may be turned to the head or foot of the bed, it being only necessary to remove the frame 6 and springs h from one side and to attach them to the other side to change the position of the mattress.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination, a substantially square mattress, pins secured to each side of each corner of the base of the mattress, a metallic frame adapted to be removably secured to said mattress by said pins, springs the under ends of which are furnished with clips adapted to be secured to the outer end of said frame and the upper portions of which are bent to form hooks, and eyes carried by the upper portion of the mattress adapted to be engaged by said hooks.
