' efl'ect, and having great resiliency.
Be it known that I, Gus'rar R. Cameos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo in the county of Erie and State of New Yorlr,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Bed-Springs, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a spring for beds, couches and the like to facilitate the cushioning efl'ect of the covers or upholstering thereof.
The invention embodies amen other features a frame having mounte thereon a series of members adapted to receive springs and retain the same in engagement with the frame the; mentioned springs being arto provide a maximum cushioning In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is to be had to the accom anying drawings constituting a part 0 this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views and in which-- Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of my bed spring. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the clip. Fig. 3 is a fra mentary vertical sectional view taken on tie line 88 in Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a frame 10 consisting of an outer border strip 11 and cross strips 12. Rigidly secured in spaced relation on the cross strips 12 are spring holding members 18 comprising a body 14 having an aperture 15 therein and through which is extended a rivet. or the like for securing the spring holding member to the cross strip, the ends of the body 14 being bent upwardly and then curved downwardly to form securing flanges 15", the said flanges being provided with slots 16. The spring holding members 13 are preferably formed of an integral piece of material and are particularly adapted for use in connection with conically shaped springs 17.
As shown in Fig. 1 the spring holding members 13 are arranged in rows upon the cross strips 12 and the lowermost convolution of one of the springs 17 is inserted beneath one of the securing flanges 15 of one of the spring holding members 13, the said spring being then pulled upwardly to engage the inner surface of the securing flange, a securing flange on the next adjacent spring member being also adapted to receive the lowermost convolution of the said spring and the securing flange 15 on the opposite end of the first mentioned spring holding member being adapted to receive the lowermost convolution of the next spring 17. Thus as shown in Fig. 1, the springs will be mounted in rows. in alinement with the spring holding members 13 with a plurality of springs in engagement with each spring holding member and a cord or wire 18 is then secured to the border strip 11 adjacent one end of one of the rows of springs and spring holding members and the cord is then extended through the slots 16 of the spring holding members with the other end thereof secured to the opposite portion of the border strip 11, thus retaining the springs 17 in engagement with the spring members, while at the same time the flexibility of the cord or wire 18, together with the manner of mounting the springs upon the spring holding members will produce an evenly distributed resiliency and cushioning efl'ect without causing a dislocation of any of the s rings.
It wil be understood that the spring holding members can be made of any desired materm] and can be arranged upon the frame 10 in other positions than shown in the figures.
I claim In a bed spring, a spring holding member for attachment to the frame of the bed spring, the said spring holding member comprising an integral piece of material bent to form a body having the ends thereof bent upwardly and then curved downwardly to form securing flanges, the said securing flanges being provi ed with centrally arranged slots.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
GUSTAF R. CARLSON.
