UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. \(VILBUR, OF TAUN TON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE WEIR STOVE COMPANY, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORA- TION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
COOKING STOVE OR RANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 719,629, dated February 3, 1903.
Application filed December 10, 1900. Serial No. 39|452- (N0 model To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. WILBUR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking Stoves or Ranges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature.
The invention relates to a range or stove having stationary or fixed devices or means at the inner end of the main baking-oven for reflecting light when the main oven-door is open upon the contents of the oven, especially at its inner end, whereby the oven and all that is in it are made light and exposed to sight.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a range having the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in vertical section from side to side of the said range. Fig. 3 is a view of the said range in vertical section from front to back upon the dotted line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the main baking-oven of a range or stove; B the door by which it is opened and closed, and C the inner end of the oven, which is generally permanently closed by the end or back plate 0 0f the stove or range. At this closed end dering visible and distinct the parts of the oven which are now dark or not Well lighted and the articles which may be contained in said portions of the oven. This reflector forms a fixture at the end of the oven. I prefer to make the reflector ofsheet-tin on the side of the inner end of the oven, polished upon one side to provide a brilliant reflecting-surface. It is represented as fastened or secured to the end plate d of the oven. To prevent conduction of heat between the end plate 01 and the reflector-plate, there may be interposed between the reflector and the end plate a layer (1, of asbestos or similar heat-resisting material. This will tend to prevent the burnished or polished surface of the light-reflector from becoming tarnished. By locating a light-reflector at the inner end of the oven the light entering it is reflected back and the inner portion ofthe oven-space made lighter and the things in it more clearly visible than is possible in the ordinary construction now employed.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- In a range or cooking-stove a detachable reflecting-plate contained at the inner end of the oven, in combination with a backing of asbestos or other like heat-resisting substance, as and for the purposes set forth.
GEO. E. WILBUR.
In presence of- ELISHA T. JACKSON, M. P. WALKER.
