IMPROVEMENT IN OVEN-DOORS OF COOKlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 127,718, dated June 11,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. UTTER, of the city of Brooklyn, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oven-Doors of Stoves, Ranges, or other Cooking Apparatus; and hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description thereof.
In order to better reflect the heat and produce a higher temperature in ovens, it has been the practice to coat the inside of the ovendoors with sheet-tin but the tin in a short time loses its brightness, and the surface melts ofi, thereby losing its properties of reflection and becoming useless. My invention consists in providing the inside of oven-doors with a material which will have all the properties of reflection that the bright surface of tin has, and
not being as good a conductor of heat as metal,
will prevent its escape by absorption, thereby raising the temperature in the oven.
- To produce these improved results, I place alayer of enamel on the inside of the ovendoor, thus giving a polished surface which will bear a high temperature without tarnishing, and, by its imperfect conducting qualities, prevent the escape of the heat. This may be done by placing a coating of enamel on the inside surface of the oven-door direct, or by attaching sheets of iron or other material, previously enameled, thereon by means of rivets or other suitable fastenings.
