DOOR FORSTOVEOVENS. No. 246,607. Patented Sept. 6,1881.

DOOFl FOR STOVE-OVENS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,607, dated September 6, 1881.
Application filed December 6, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GILEs F.F1LLEY,ot` St. Louis, Missouri, have made a new and useful Improvement in Doors for (looking Stove and Range Ovens, ot' which the t'ollowingis a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part ot' this specification, in which- Figure l is a view in perspective ot` a stove having the improvement; Fig. 2, a detail, being a sectional view upon an enlarged scale, taken through one of the registers; and Fig. 3, a detail, being an elevation from the inner side ofa portion ot' the oven-door having one ofthe registers.
The-same letters denote the same parts.
I have heretofore made an improvement in cooking stoves and ranges enabling the outer air topass directly and freely into an d throughout the oven during the cooking. The iinprovement referred to consists in providingthe oven door or doors with wire-gauze or finelyperi'orated metal, thereby furnishing many small openings through which the air can enter and leave the oven during the cooking.
It is'sometimes desirable to be able to close a portion or all of the openings in the oven door or doors, according to the character, quantity, or position in the oven ofthe articles being cooked, or when it is desired to increase the heat in the oven. To provide for this is the aim ot' the present improvement, which consists in furnishing the oven door or doors with a series of registers, a portion ot the series being in the upper part ot' the door or doors and a portion in the lower part ot' the door or doors, as in the annexed drawings, where- A represents a cooking-stove ot' the ordinary construction, saving as modified by the present improvement.
B represents the oven-door. In the upper part of it is a series of registers, C C O2, and in the lower part of it a series ot' registers, D D D2 D3. The air enters the oven through the lower registers and leaves the oven through the upper registers.
In the drawings some ot the registers are (No model.)
shown closed, the air entering, in the case in question, through the registerD and escaping through the registers O C O2, confining the air-circulation more especially to that part ot the oven immediately in the line ofthe opened registers. In this way the heat in any particular portion ot the oven can be tempered at will and to suit the peculiar character of the stove or range having the improvement, as well as the nature or position of the article being cooked, it being well known that in most cooking stoves and ranges the oven is unevenly heated, and to correct this defect the registers O D can be opened or closed accordinglythat is, it' the oven is too hot in front, air can be admitted at that point. The registers are preferably of the circular i'orm shown.
If desired, tinely-pertorated metal-such as wire-gauze E-may be attached to the oven door or doors at the register-openings.
I am aware that oven-doors have had registers in the upper and lower parts ofthe door; but the ovens referred to had diaphragins or shelves between the upper and lower registers, extending horizontally throughout the principal portion of the oven. Such a construction would interfere with my present purpose, and
I disclaim it.
I claiml. A cooking stove or range oven having one or both doors provided with a register or registers arranged in the upper part of the door or doors, and with a register or registers arranged in the lower part of the door or doors, and without a diaphragm arranged horizontally in the oven between the upper and lower registers and extending throughout the principal portion ot' the oven, substantially as described.
2. A cooking stove or range oven door having series of registers O U C2 D D D2, the openings at said registers having thegauze E, substantially as described.
GILES F. FILLEY.
