UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE- ROBERT FLETCHER, OF TORONTO, CANADA.
lNTERlOR CHARCOAL ATTACHMENTFOR COOKlNG-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. '710,5'7l, dated October '7, 1902. Application filed May 17, 1901. Serial No. 60,757. (No model.)-
To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT FLETCHER, merchant,of the city of Toronto,in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Interior Charcoal Attachments for Cooking-Stoves, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in interior charcoal attachments for cooking stoves; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple attachment designed to be inserted above the fire-bricks of the fire-pot of the stove which will make the range especially adaptable for summer cooking, using charcoal as a fuel; and it consists, essentially,
of a shield having charcoal fire-pots located.
in the same, such shield extending over the bricks of the fire-box of the stove, so as to hold the pot up near to the lid, as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure l is a perspective view of portion of a cooking range or stove, showing the parts involved in my invention. Fig. 2 is a crosssection of portion of the stove, showing the manner of placing the attachment. Fig.8 is a perspective view of the attachment removed.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the front of the stove, B the top, and C the lids, that are situated over the fire-box D. The fire-box D is provided with bricks d. In an ordinary range or cooking-stove the front bricks are lower than the back ones, so as to make room for the damper A.
E is a shield which is level at the back, but is at the front provided with an L-shaped bend 6, whereby the level of the main portion of the shield is preserved. It will be noticed that the shield is placed as close as possible to the top of the stove, being so placed in order to hold the fire-pots F for the charcoal close to the bottom of the lids. There is, however, sufficient space to allow of a draft.
By the construction I have described I am enabled to cook veryeconomically during the summer months and with but a minimum amount of radiation in the kitchen. It will also be seen that there being two fire-pots, one underneath each stove-hole, that the heat will be immediately underneath the point where it is needed. 7
By the deflecting-shield the heat is kept above the fire-box proper, and the products of combustion may pass over the oven and up the chimney in the usual manner, so that such oven can be utilized for baking.
The fire-pot F and shield Eare preferably made of sheet metal, and the fire-potis turned upwith a flange f, whereby it is supported on the edge of the opening in the shield, through which it extends.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In an attachment for cooking-stoves, a plate having a downwardly-extending front provided with a horizontal flange for resting on the bricks, said plate having a central opening in its flat portion, and a fire-pot having an annular rim resting upon the edge of said opening, substantially as described.
2. In an attachment for cooking-stoves, a plate fiat at the top, so as to rest closely on the back bricks of the stove and having a downwardlyextending front provided with a horizontal flange for resting on the front bricks of the stove, the said plate having an opening in its flat portion and a fire-pot suitably supported at the top edge upon the edge of the opening and extending downwardly into the fire-pot, substantially as described.
