INGEBORG PETTERSEN, OF BRANDON, MINNESOTA.
KNEE-REST.
sEECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 718,875, dated January 20, 1903.
Application filed May 12, 1902.
T0 [LZZ w/wm, it may concern:
Be it known that I, INGEBORG PETTERSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brandon, in the county of Douglas and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Knee-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in knee rests or supports, and refers particularly to a rest or support to be used by a person when scrubbing or working upon floors, allowing the person to work upon the floor with ease and without danger of soiling the garments or of contacting with the floor.
The object of my invention is the provision of a knee rest or support for the purpose stated which will be of inexpensive and durable construction, which can be easily used for the desired purpose, and which will be thoroughly efficient and practical.
With this object in view my invention consists of a knee-rest embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts for service, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of' my rest or support in position for use upon a floor. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 represents a detail view of the caster securing and guiding device.
My knee-rest consists of the frame or support proper, A, which is preferably provided with the cane or flexible portions B and has the metal binding and reinforcing strips 0, the whole forming a substantial and comfortable rest or support. To the corners and centrally of the frame are secured the angleshaped brackets D, of which three are preferably used, and in each bracket are mounted the pintles E of the caster-bearings F, in which are mounted the casters or rollers G, and the pintles are formed with the head H, which fits upon and revolves upon the annular collars J, formed on the brackets. From this construction it will be seen that the rest may be easily moved upon the surface of the floor in $erial No. 107,002. (No model.)
the act of scrubbing, painting, waxing, orfor any other Work upon the floor, and when desired .to hold the rest at any desired place upon the floor I provide the arm K, which slides in the bearing L and has a fork M, which engages the roller mounted in the caster frame or hearing of the central caster, and thus holds the rest when desired. Ialso provide the rest with receptacles N and N for soap and brush or for other articles used in working upon the floor, as will be understood. If desired, the rest may be provided with a cushion, upon which the knees can rest and make the device more comfortable.
It will thus be seen that I provide arest or support which will hold the person working upon a floor at the proper position with reference to the floor and that the device can be readily moved upon the floor to anyplace and retained when desired and that it can be made at a small price, thus bringing Within reach of all a muclrneeded article.
I claim- 1. A knee-rest composed of the frame or support, a series of raised caster-frames carried'by the support, casters mounted in the frames and rotatable therein and a device for holding one of the casters stationary when desired.
2. A knee-rest composed of the rest or support, a central and two corner casters carried by the support, and means for holding the central caster stationary when desired.
3. A knee-rest composed of the rest or support, the angle-shaped brackets secured to the corners and center thereof, the casters having their pintles mounted in the brackets and rotatable therein, and the head on the pintles and a device for holding one of the casters stationary when desired.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
INGEBORG PETTERSEN.
