To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES M. REED, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Nashville, in the county of Holmes and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Towel-Wringers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for wringing out towels that are to be used for massage purposes and for hot water applications and fomentations; and it has for its object to provide a device of this class which shall be simple in construction and efficient in operation, and bymeans of which towels and the like, after being immersed in hot water, may be wrung out comparatively dry without scalding the hands and without twisting the cloths to an unsightly condition.

With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention; it being, however, understood, that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a wringer constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same.

Corresponding parts in these figures are denoted by like characters of reference.

A frame is provided which consists of a yoke A having side members or arms 1, 1, which are provided with bearings for a shaft 2 carrying a roller 3. A mating roller 4 is supported upon a shaft 5 which is j ournaled in the lower ends of a pair of arms 6, 6, which are pivoted at 6 upon the side members 1, 1 of the frame or yoke; said arms 6, 6, being connected to each other by a cross bar 7, thus constituting a pivoted or movably supported frame or yoke. The arms 6, 6, are connected with ,the side members of the frame A by means of springs 8 whereby the arms 6 are rocked upon their pivots to hold the roller 4 forcibly in engagement with the roller 3. The frame A is provided with a handle 9 whereby it may be conveniently manipulated; and said handle is connected by a hinge 10 with the upper edge of a bucket or receptacle 11.

The shaft 2 of the roller 3 is provided, adjacent to the ends of said roller with pivoted cheek pieces 12 having slots 13 engaging the shaft 5 of the roller 4; said cheek pieces serving to limit the movement of the roller 4 in an outward direction from the roller 3. The bucket 11 may be provided with a bracket 14 constituting a supporting member whereby the wringer will be retained in suitable position for operation, substantially as indi cated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

The operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The device may be tilted by means of the handle 9 to a position in which the rollers will be supported at a suitable distance above the hue ct or vessel 11, when, by depressing the cross bar 7, the arms 6 carrying the roller 4 will be rocked upon their pivots, against the tension of the springs 8, sufficiently to permit one corner of a towel or napkin to be inserted between the rollers, after which the device is restored to the position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, thus immersing the towel or cloth in the water contained in the bucket, which may be maintained in a heated condition by placing said bucket upon a stove or over a lamp or heater of any description. When the towel or cloth is needed, it may be drawn in an upward direction between the rollers which will 0 erate to squeeze the surplus water from t e towel, which latter will thus be ready for instant application and use. While one towel is being used, another one may be immersed in the hot water so as to be ready for use whenever it is wanted. This improved device, as will be seen, is very simple in con struction and it may be supplied at a moderate expense; it will be found extremely useful, not only in hospitals, sanitariums, barber shops, and other places where massage and hot water ap lications and fomentations are professiona ly given, but in private families as well.

I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, a frame having a handle, a wringer roller supported for rotation in said frame, a bucket or container, a hinge connecting said bucket with the handle of the roller carrying frame,

spring actuated arms pivoted upon the side members of the roller carrying frame, a mating roller carried by said arms, and a cross bar connecting the arms and constituting a handle whereby they may be simultaneously operated.

2. In a device of the class described, a frame having a handle, a Wringer roller supported for rotation in the frame, spring actuated arms pivoted upon the side members of the frame, a mating roller journaled upon said arms, cheek pieces pivoted upon the shaft of the roller carried by the frame and having slots engaging the shaft of the roller carried by the ivoted arms, and a cross bar 15 connecting sair arms.
