UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AZRO B. JAQUITH, OF CHARLESTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS.
FOLDING BOX OR CRATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 718.255, dated January 13, 1903.
Application iiled May 12, 1902. Serial No. 106,956. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known thatI, AZRO B. JAQUITH, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Charlestown, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, haverinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Boxes or Crates, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to folding boxes, and especially that class designed for the'transportation of fruits and vegetables.
The object of the invention is the construction of afolding box wherein the several parts may be easily assembledand when so assembled will possess sufficient strength for the purpose intended.
A further object of the invention is to produce a folding box in which the several parts will possess advantages in points of simplicity and inexpensive structure.
With the above and 'other objects in View the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangements and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several Views, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the View shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the bindingclip, and Fig. 4: is a partial elevation of the bindingstrip.
In the drawings the body of the box is formed of the two pieces 17 and 1S, each being divided into three folds. The center folds 19 of said pieces are similar in shape, so that when in the oppositely-disposed posi tion required for assembling the box the limiting edges of said center folds will register one with the other. The outer folds 2O of each piece are of a width equal to the depth of the box desired` and are adapted to assume fold 19. The pieces 17 and 18 when in position are oppositely disposed and lie one upon the other, so that the outer folds when bent upward or perpendicular to the center folds complete the four sides of the box. When in this position, they are made fast by a binding-strip 21, which incloses the four sides of the box formed and is secured thereto centrally of each side by the spring-clips 22, the heads of said clips resting in registering recesses 23 and 24 of the outer folds of the pieces 17 and'lS and the binding-strip 21.
It will be noted that various changes in the construction and proportions of the invention may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. ln a folding box, two oppositelydisposed pieces having registering center folds and outer folds adapted to assume a vertical 1 position with relation to the center folds, a binding-strip surrounding the outer folds and spring-clips for securing the strip to the outer folds.
2. In a folding box, two oppositely-disposed pieces having registering center folds and outer folds adapted to assume a vertical position with relationV to the center folds, a bindingstrip surrounding the outer folds, spring-clips for securing the strip to the outer folds and registering recesses in the strip and ,outer folds for receiving theA head of the clip.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two Witnesses, this 23d day of April, 1 902.
AZEo B. JAQUITH.
