THEODORE SCHMIDT, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO SIMON DANOYGER, OF SAME PLACE. l
PAPER BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 679,917, dated August 6, 1901.
Application filed December 3, 1900, Serial No. 38,451- (l lo model.)
T0 all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THEODORE SCHMIDT, acitizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in-the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters 'of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paper boxes, the features of which will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object is to construct a firm paper box the sides of which are bound by' wire Staples thatpass through the sides and are clenched.
The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan of the blank. Fig. 2 is anenlarged view of the side of the box.
Like letters and numerals designate like parts in the two views. f
The blank is approximately an oblong square and is cut from a piece of paper. The several dotted lines over the face of the same exhibit the creases which are made to 1 aid in bending the paper in giving form'to lower right corner, with a square section 6 cut out of both corners, and the upper right corner 3 4 and the lower left corner 4 3, with small squares 5 cut out of both of these. All
the corners are folded similarly. The two sections of the corner are bent together and then bent against the outer surface of the side wall, as shown at Fig. 2. Section 4 is the outer part of the corner fold, the point of which is cut away (see 5, Fig. 1) that it may terminate freely within the space of the end wall. '2 This corner fold enters between the parts of the opposite corner fold (see 2, Fig. 2) formed of the notch6. Then rivets 7 are passed through all the abutting parts and clenched against the inner surface of the sidewalls; The quadrangular notches 6 6 are cut away in the blank, and thereby one corner fold is adapted to enter the other, as shown at Fig. 2, and as the side portions are secured by wire staples a symmetrical box is formed and of great firmness. The
box is complete by using the usual form of cover.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. The paper box comprising the blank having a quadrangular bottom, side and end sections for the body, the corner folds pro-' vided with an angular notch adapted to receive when folded the upper ends of the opposite corner folds as fixed against said side sections above the line of the intersection of said corner folds at the longitudinal center of the box, substantially as shown anddescribed. I
2. The paper boxcomprising'the blank having a quadrangular bottom, side and end sections for the body, the corner'folds provided with an angular notch adapted to receive when folded the upper ends of the opposite corner folds as fixed against said side sections above the line of the intersection of said corner folds, and the other corners slightly notched to relieve the bulkiness, substantially: as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THEODORE SCHMIDT.
