TO WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, WALTER T. THORNTON, of Belleville, in the county of Wayne, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Wegon-Seat'Fastening; and I do decla-re that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and making a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front View of my invention ready to be attached to a. wagon'.
Figure 2 is a front view of the same, with the cap o'i, showing the rack and catch and spring.
The same letters refer to similar parts in each figure.
The object of my invention is to so construct a wagon-seat fastening, of any suitable material, that the seat may hera-ised and lowered at pleasure.
p In manufacturing `my inventiornl make a plate, A, with Suitable `projeoticms B Bydtc., to which to fasten the cap C, 'Between the projections B B, Ato., I pla-ce the rack D, provided at the top with a suitable rest, E, `for the seat, which may be attached to the rest without or with springs, as may be desired.` To the bed-plate A, I attach the catch F, which is made to retain its position by means of the spring G. These seat-fastenings I construct 4right and left-handed, as one is required upon either side of the wagon. The spring G may be a iat, a Vshnped, or a spiral spring, as may be most desirable. Y
s What I claim as my invention, and desire to` secure by Letters Patent, isf- The construction of a wagon-seat fastening, substantially as described, witlrplate A, projections B B, Snc., cap C, rack D provided with seat-rest E, the catch F, and the spring G, or theirequivalents, for the purpose set forth.
WALTER T. THORNTON.
