TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN; v V
Be it known that I, N. B. COOPER, of Liberty, in the county of Union, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain-new and useful Improyements in Clothes-Pins; and do hereby declare; that the folloiving is a full, clear, andlexaot description thereof, reference being had to the aceompanying drawings, to the letter-s of reference marked thereon, making a. part of this speeifieation'. r
This invention consists in the eonstrnotion of Athe clothes-pin o formedifor olamping the clothes after the same are attached to the line. i
In'the nnnexed drawings, A represents the clothes-pin, which is formed with the two ends of the Wire` at i the bottomvl As will be seen, this Wire is so bent :that a oii-ele, a, is formed at the top, where the Wire is douhled,`` and that below said eircle an ellipse, b, is formed by the two ends crossingeaoh'other directlyhrrdcr `the eirele` 1d. Also, a small ellipse, e, is formed beneath the ellipse b, as the Wire again cro'sses andiallor vs` the two ends V-to lie against'eaeh other With their ends hent voutwards. VBy theformation of the wi're in this manner itwill "be seen that' a spring is thiis made of the pin, so that the clothes are held firmly to` the line`` The elotlies-line may be run through the opening a., or the pin may crot'ch theline in the ellipse b, while'tthe clothing is connected `i i hetwee'l the two ends of the Wire. i l
Having thusfully described my invention,
f one piece of `Wire, so bent that a spring is what I olaim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatenthisfv i Forming one piece ofy Wire into a clothes-pin in such a mann'er as to leave a `circular opening, a, at theltop i crossing the ends of the Wire below the circleto form the ellipse b, and again` helenr `this` ellipse tofleave` ai smaller elliptieal space, O, whereby the clothes or line may be held by the spring of the Wire, as specified. ,n V
. In test-imony that I 'olaim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and Seal, this 4th day of March,i18`67'i.` i
